Anyone been around the Arbuckles this morning? I have to drive down to Texoma. I'm heading out from Norman around 10...

How bad is it?

I'm in. For some reason my out-of-state clients are none too concerned about a little snow in OK.

WTF - They canceled mid-del schools and ruined my day to myself. Guess that .0001" of snow flurries on the ground was too much to risk.

We opened a couple of hours late this morning to give folks time to drive in. Thanks to all the schools being out my drive was relatively uneventful until I turned onto the road leading to our building. I fish-tailed more there than anywhere.

Santa Fe in front of Ben E. Keith's had a couple of slick spots, but nothing major.

One that should be filled with cages, hungry lions and landmines. But sadly isn't.

geez....

the most difficult part of my commute from Norman to North OKC this morning was scraping the ice off my car. I was shocked at how light traffic was. A teensy bit of snow and ice, and everyone here hunkers down? I don't get it.

Is 1/2 and inch of ice not as slick as an inch? Ice is ice.

Some places are definitely slick.

It is in places . . . should be clearing up a little more now though. Schools could have started later, but parents wouldn't have had the time to deal with childcare or whatever.

Maybe...seems like I remember driving to school in much worse, and doing a couple of 360s on robinson due to the slickness. It seemed to me that even light traffic roads weren't too bad this morning.

Yeah, no kidding. My office is still open today--I drove all the way from South Norman to Mustang and the roads were totally fine. The parking lot, on the other hand, was pretty trecherous. But it wasn't anything to be worried about. Then my husband texts and says OU's campus is shut down. I mean, I understand they don't want to get sued when people slip on the sidewalks, but I remember days with three inches of snow and a layer of ice on TOP of that, when they never cancelled--that day WAS incredibly dangerous. Today....not quite as much.

I'm sure we all drove to school in much worse. My point was that there are spots where it is perfectly fine to drive at your normal speed. The problem is when you hit that unexpected slick spot that can cause the problem.

I think that's what they were trying to avoid today.

well, to be fair...nobody is out there driving at normal speeds. Everyone is going pretty slow. It's just there are far fewer people going slow than I thought there would be.

Probably depends on where you're at . . .

I drove at my normal speeds this morning when I drove in. Most everyone else did too. It was the few who were totally freaking out that were causing most of the problems. :D

Well that and the couple of times I fish-tailed. :D

I had six inches of snow in Wichita a couple of weeks ago, so forgive me if your "icepocalypse" (yes, I corrected the spelling; you're welcome) fails to impress me. ;)

SNOMG is my current favorite.

i woke up at 8 this morning to see an insurance adjuster and saw the snow and thought nothing of it, went back to sleep. i didn't know class was cancelled until i woke up for class later.

i totally missed the snow day

i think Facebook/Twitter makes it more obvious when conditions are bad. i remember going to school/work in much worse even 5 years ago it seems
