I have been meaning to run this thread since the BCS game was completed and just now got around to it.

1 Alabama 32-22-3
2 USC 31-16
3 Penn State 27-14-2
4 Oklahoma 26-17-1
5 Georgia 26-17-3
6 Texas 25-22
7 Tennessee 25-24
8 Nebraska 24-23
9 Florida State 22-14-2
10 Georgia Tech 22-17
11 LSU 22-19-1
12 Mississsippi 21-12
13 Auburn 21-13-2
14 Ohio State 20-22
15 Florida 19-19
16 Michigan 19-21
17 Miami Fl 18-16
18 Clemson 16-17
19 Washington 15-14-1
20 Notre Dame 15-15
21 Iowa 14-10-1
22 UCLA 14-15-1
23 Boston College 13-9
24 North Carolina State 13-11-1
25 North Carolina 13-15

I find it odd that Michigan and Notre Dame who are the two winngest teams in CFB history are so far down the Top 25 list for bowl wins.On the flip side Florida State is a surprise to me that they are that high up since they are a relative newcomer to big-time football. On second glance I would add Mississippi as a shocker too, they just don't leap to my mind as a POWER PROGRAM.

Also, for years, the big 10 only sent one team a year to a bowl, and they had a no repeat rule, so I think that you could only got to a bowl 50% of the time until the late 60s or so (not sure when the rule started).

I thought Notre Dame stopped going to bowl games from around 1924 through 1969.

Not that I really care though.

Wins in bowl games tell little. A title game vs the car care bowl is very different.

I forget, did the Whorns win their bowl game this year?

FSU won like 8 -10 in a row in the 80's. Mississippi is a surprise. Penn State used to be good in bowls but has sucked for awhile. We've put 2 in a row together to get back up there.

Can't help ya there, but I got it on good authority that they were THE MOST DISAPPOINTING TEAM IN 2010!!!

Hey, a source told me so . . .

MISSISSIPPI is not really a surprise. Their all time great coach JOHN VAUGHT, responsible for all of Ole Miss' 6 SEC Championships, won the big bowls for them and many for that matter.

Back then, SEC sent several schools to bowls every year whereas Big Ten only went to Rose Bowl and Big 8 would send every other year to bowls. That's why schools like Georgia, Ole Miss and Georgia Tech are high up there.

Ole Miss also lays claims to the 1959 and 1960 national titles. They finished #2 in back to back years according to the polls.

Ole Miss was a power until 1963 then they died off. Much like Minnesota until 1960 when all their glory days were in the 30s, 40s and 60s.

Actually, Texas is 25-22-2. Out of 49 bowl games, all but 16 were played in the state of Texas.

Imagine playing 70% of your bowl games in your home state and still having a losing record.

USC has an greater home-state advantage, playing all but 11 of their 48 bowls games in California and all but 13 within a few minutes drive from the school's campus. But at least they have a winning record.

The old Big 6/Big 7 had a "no repeat" policy on bowl games as well.

Started in the early '50s after OU went to three-in-a-row Sugar Bowls in 48, 49 and 50.

OU President George Lynn Cross felt that OU's third-consecutive appearance in New Orleans had caused the city to sour on the Sooners, and he thought that more teams deserved a chance to play in bowl games. There were only six bowl games then, and he knew OU would win the conference most years. So he was the mover-and-shaker that got the "Oklahoma Rule" instituted.

If not for that rule, we should have another half-dozen or so bowl appearances.

Notre Dame considered themselves too important to go to bowl games. And they still won national championships. Give me a f'n break.

Hmmmm, I can't seem to find the crew from Stoolwater on that list anywhere, either a mistake, or the credibility of this research is questionable.

Besides the fewer number of bowls attended, part of Notre Dame's failure is being put in better bowls than they deserved to be in, only because of their name. Seems like they were on about a 9-10 straight losing streak recently.

Only two losing records on the entire list. Interesting.
