Not saying he hasn't played well, but Sam just looks like he has been playing for a few years in that system. He's patient, nails his receivers (unless the D line doesn't get blocked and blocks a pass), relaxed on the sideline. I hope he can pull this win out...

This is true. In the end, although it would be cool for Sam to make the playoffs, they need to get impact players in the draft a lot more than they need to get curb stomped by the Saints next week. Sam had a nice rookie season with not a lot to work with. He'd be in such better shape with the Lions though, who have excellent receivers and picked #1 the year before.

Very you need a consistent run game in the playoffs. The reason why Brees has been erractic is because of that. If Bush can get back to speed and Ivory can make some noise then you'll have a shot. You guys had some ppl banged up today too and don't have a bye. That'll hurt but you play the Seahawks so its kind of a bye week lol.

I honestly think that Spag was planning for the draft more than he wanted to win that game. Horrible. Not to challenge the sideline play earlier in the game or the horrific ball spotting is inexcusable. Plus, even if you don't have good down field threats, you still have to stretch the field at some point before late in the 3rd Q.

And that was the worst spot I have ever seen since the Hawks played the Jets and they gave Testeverde a TD and he was about 2 yards short.

Just an awful job.

And there is no way a coach missed getting into the playoffs with a rookie QB and a team as young as this for a couple spots higher in the draft.

There was one poster who said that maybe Spag should be fired. I'm going to go ahead and explain this is one of the dumbest posts I've read on this board.

1) The Rams were 1-15 last year. They were 7-9 this year. Under most circumstances, that's a hell of an improvement, and contrary to popular belief, it's not entirely due to the arrival of Sammy B. Spag has significantly improved that defense and kept them in most games, and the team is a few offensive weapons (capable wideouts, better protection) from possibly putting up good numbers. He has the Rams heading in the right direction.

2) For the people saying that Spag's gameplan was too conservative: what gave you the idea that that offense is capable of anything but? A QB can't succeed much if his receivers drop every attempt at stretching the field. Amendola is a hell of an underneath WR, but he's a number one on that team at this point. There's something wrong with that. The Rams pass offense isn't physically capable of playing a more loose style of offense.

3) Let's be realistic here: this team would have been absolutely clobbered by New Orleans in the first round. Seriously, the Seahawks may be in for an unholy beating. Under most circumstances, the Rams aren't even in contention. What did the Rams lose? A chance to likely get killed on a national scale. What did they gain? A better draft pick, possibly even enough to draft a Julio Jones quality WR. I'm not saying that the team tanked the game, but for the long term benefits (hell, as soon as next season), this is going to put them in a much better position to be competitive.

4) Sam had a good season and should be proud that he is part of a turnaround for the Rams organization. This team was 1-15 last season, and they were fortunate to be in an awful division to compete to become the worst division winner of all time a year later.

I'm not saying Spag is the perfect coach. He's not; he's made a number of mistakes this year, like every coach (hell, the non-challenge sticks out as a bad move). But only an idiot can't see that he has this team heading for greener pastures.

Kudos to Sam and the Rams on a season that surpassed many expectations. 7 wins for a team that hasn't had that many combined in the last few is definitely something to be proud about. Hopefully that with the draft and free agency they can grab a few more weapons and fill a few more holes.

As hard as Sam has worked he'll have to work even harder this off-season to take his game to the next level. Yardage-wise he is fine if he puts up about the same numbers there. If he can join the 4000 club, that is just gravy. If he can up his TD total from 18 this year to 24 next year and drop the INTs from 15 this year to 12 next year and get that ration to around 2:1 would be great.
