Two (2) things:

1) That three short whistle blast given by the Tenn band leader is driving me nuts.
2) It's ridiculous that so many of these bowl games are basically home games for one team or the other. We've been on the short end of that stick for years.

Edit: sorry, four (4) blasts.

It doesn't make any sense. Any team that doesn't have timeouts just snap the ball regardless of where your players are on the field and you get a free snap later. Ya you lose 5 yards but at least you get a play.

No whistle blows Clock stops

So you get a free snap. Seems like that rule needs to be revisited. Now I understand the extra men on the field thing but not if I've got receivers going deep and get sacked. I can just snap the ball before they return and the clock stops, I get 5 yards against me, my offense or kicking team gets set, and I snap the ball as soon as the ref blows the whistle.

the offense was set?? there were 9 guys running around in the backfield like a fuggin arena league WR! the refs had their pick of 20 penalties they couldve called, false start being one.

OK lets go with that . Ref blows the whistle for ANY ****IN PENALTY , Clock Stops
**** dudes this aint rocket surgery

The OL was set and so were the skilled position players. That was my meaning. The fg unit is not on offense.

I give up, all I know is UNC won and it was a fun game to watch.

BTW, UCONN women going down for real.

Did the QB and the offense do what they were supposed too?

I believe they did.

Did the guys on the sidelines screw up?

You bet they did.

Could the refs have called it another way?

I guess....but I still like the idea of the refs not making a ruling that ends a ballgame. Let the players decide the outcome. I believe they let them play it out....Tennessee got the coin flip....they had roughed the kicker on top of the fact that I swear someone blew a whistle when the UNC kicker was making his move on the ball....

UNC pulled off a win against stacked odds at the end of the game....good for them. Exciting football.

i guess im just confused because surely the rule couldnt be so.......illogical.

but then I remind myself that this is the NCAA we're talking about.

Maybe that's why they called the run?

I'm not debating whether or not the rule was administered correctly or not but the fact it needs to be revisited and changed. Seems like an easy way to get a free snap when you don't have TOs.

Sorry...I'm speaking of a different hypothetical situation that could afford me an extra snap.

One last question: Why didnt the officials step over the center, and not allow him to snap it on the last play of regulation since UNC was subbing players in? Shouldnt they have given UT a chance to sub in like they do when we run no-huddle?

just a cluster-**** for the ages....

In the NFL that woulda been over because of the clock runoff on penalties

They sure weren't letting OU snap the ball when A&M was subbing defensive players down in College Station.

Can you imagine the hysterics if the ref put his foot on the ball while the clock ran out?

I can just see it now:

"Personal foul on the center for shoving the ref to the ground and snapping the ball. Fifteen yards. However, since the ball was snapped with one second left..."

Now Mark May, Lou Holtz (but I don't blame him for not seeing anything), and Noah whatever can't see the NC player hit the UT player on the "obvious" late hit no call.

And it sounds like those guys are saying what I'm saying...the no clock run off should be revisited. Unless there is a run off for offsides (on the offense) or false start then what happened tonight really should be fine. I'm only thinking of a situation where receivers are down field and will not make it back across the line before the clock expires.

Or just let it go. As long as a center and QB can line up and snap it, then the clock stops, they get a penalty, and get rewarded for making a smart play.

Think of it like pulling down a WR who has you beat on a long pass. Should the D benefit from the penalty, or should it get rewarded for a smart play by the CB?
