Hmm.....

OMAHA, Neb. -- Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne says he sees nothing inappropriate about a licensing agreement the university has with the father of starting quarterback Taylor Martinez.

Casey Martinez of Corona, Calif., owns an apparel company known as Corn Fed. The Los Angeles Times reported this week he signed a contract with Nebraska in June 2007 that entitles Nebraska to a 10 percent royalty on Corn Fed products bearing the Cornhuskers' logo.

Nebraska offered Taylor Martinez a football scholarship in July 2008. An NCAA spokesman told the Times that the deal is not against the rules.

Osborne told The Associated Press on Thursday that "the arrangement was done before we even knew about Taylor Martinez or that we knew he was a football player."

Casey Martinez said he trademarked the name Corn Fed in 2000.

Casey Martinez said he trademarked the name Corn Fed in 2000. That is a lie. A very quick search on USPTO shows it was registered in 2007. Wouldn't that have been around the time Nebraska was recruiting Martinez?

Weird, I guess his father was a nebraska fan before his son went there. If they can't get cecil or scam newton then they aren't going to be able to prove anything here.

Thanks for the link. It does say that they first used it in 2001. Filed for in 2006 and last owner is Taylor Martinez not Casey Martinez.

Here is the link to the clothing. It's not just Nebraska stuff. It's a midwest thing.

Here's Taylor's papa:

Let me get this straight. His Dad sells sporting apparel that then requires him to pay the University 10%.

So what is the problem? Are you suggesting that his Dad's business is inappropriate because he PAYS the university money? I thought the problem was when the University PAYS the athlete!!!

What do you think other companies have to do when they make the logo of ANY college.

Heck a guy here locally had to get his metal cut-outs liscenced and he pays a fee per unit sold to OU and OSU.
