but when you choose to live in a huge city, and nature deals that city a blow, you pretty much need to expect you're not getting help anytime soon.

OTOH, if you live in a small to medium sized city, first reponders still manage to get where they're needed reasonably promptly no matter what.

Therefore, when civization breaks down due to disasters, its best not to be in a big city.

Which goes to prove that You are responsible for your needs. Not Big brother

Why did the baby die? were they to stupid to clear the airway? Cover it up and keep it warm? or was there some thing wrong with it were it might not survive no matter what?

The flip side is that if you live in the boonies you're probably not going to get any help either.

I remember the old days when folks were told to be prepared in advance for the trip to the hospital if they were going to have a baby. Have a bag packed. Have the numbers of the Doctor, Hospital and any folks you want to know you're having the baby on hand so you lessen the chance of a panic. Do test runs to the Hospital. Have a back up plan....

This pretty much was for folks in the big city....small town or folks who live in the sticks. IMO with the amount of Doctors and facilities who deliver babies anymore....it might be good to know a Mid Wife and take some classes on child birth if there's a possibility you might be on your own. Before big cities....somehow folks were able to have children. Sure there were some tragedies due to a difficult birth from time to time....

It's sad to see a baby needlessly be lost due to a lack of planning and bad weather etc....I feel for the Mother. I hope she doesn't get to blaming the City for it unless there was cause. From what I read there....it was just a case of bad luck.

I think you may be underestimating this just a teeny bit. But I get the gist and agree.

That's the type of headline the drive-by media loves to throw out just to get a big eye-catching headline.
My first thoughts were the same...what was the situation (what's the rest of the story)? No one else to help? No basic knowledge of what to do with a delivered baby?? Just stayed there in the lobby??
(Agree with StoopTrop too - sad situation, all around.)
Why blame the city first responders?

I think the Walking Dead made that pretty clear.

Maybe I'm just cynical, but I noticed that they're going to do an autopsy on the newborn, which I'm sure is SOP, but it would be interesting to see the results.

Let's see.... unplanned pregnancy, she didn't tell her family about it yet, freak storm and she was by herself. Add to that conflicting stories from the 911 operators and it gets a bit interesting. Not saying the college student did anything on purpose to hurt the newborn, but the city makes a great scapegoat now.

This is obviously all the doing of the crybaby socialist liberals. Suck it up already.
