If I'd done something like that...I would be waiting for them to come crawl up my rear. I guess I'm just paranoid and Julian is a complete whackjob.

WikiLeaks’ Twitter Followers Spooked By DoJ Court Order (http://blogs.forbes.com/parmyolson/2011/01/10/wikileaks-twitter-followers-spooked-by-doj-court-order/?boxes=Homepagechannels)

You’d be forgiven for feeling a little nervous if you follow WikiLeaks on Twitter.

Yesterday the whistleblower site Tweeted that all 637,000 followers of its feed were “a target of a U.S. government subpoena against Twitter under section 2.B,” and offered a link to a court document (http://twitter.com/#!/wikileaks/status/23939621570215936).

The U.S. Department of Justice says it wants their details “as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.”

So far, five WikiLeaks supporters have been informed by Twitter that their details are being sought. Twitter said Friday that it had won a legal battle (second court document here (http://rop.gonggri.jp/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Twitter_Unsealing_Order.pdf)) to let them know the DoJ wanted details including bank account information and physical addresses (though it is unclear why Twitter would hold people’s bank details). WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and an Icelandic member of parliament are among those targeted, following the release of thousands of U.S. diplomatic cables by the whistleblower site.

As of this morning WikiLeaks’ Twitter followers had slipped to 636,759 and according to The Inquirer (http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1935800/wikileaks-evidence-twitter), WikiLeaks lost nearly 3,000 followers in the several hours after the announcement.

But WikiLeaks Tweeted yesterday (http://twitter.com/#!/wikileaks/status/23943796899184640): “Too late to unfollow; trick used is to demand the lists, dates and IPs of all who received our Twitter messages.”

All I know is that we're going to see the limits of the First Amendment be tested in this one.

The 3,000 who unfollowed Wikileaks after the tweet about the DoJ investigation can expect some careful scrutiny.

it's like they don't know ANYTHING about technology. someone really needs to stop them from looking stupid

you can view all the tweets over the web without following them

Reading the article, the mission is pretty legitimate. It'll look at how Wikileaks has impacted the CIA's ability to recruit info sources.

Of course, their mission is probably to lay the policy groundwork for Congress and the intelligence community to actively pursue whistleblowers and those who publish government documents.

I don't imagine that a conclusion stating that Wikileaks had no impact is what they're shooting for.
