View Full Version : Urban Meyer on ESPN

So Urban Meyer is about to appear in studio on espn to discuss the Utah vs. Boise St. game. Didn't he say one of the reasons he was leaving was to spend time with his family? So here we are, three days away from Christmas, and the dude is in Bristol doing analyst work for ESPN? I'm so ready for this guy to just go away....

I think he has a point. It's Christmas break and he's not prepping for a bowl; I am surprised he's away again instead of at home being a couch potato with his wife & kids. For all Meyer's insistence that family & health have to take a front seat, there they are hollering to him from the back - again, still.

Actually he is still prepping for a bowl, its his last game vs. Penn St. (not a Urban lover here, Just sayin')

He is coaching in the bowl game. So I imagine he has been pretty busy getting the team ready for it. So when he does have a break to be with family, he heads to Bristol. Ok Urban. Oh well, he can spend all the time he wants with his family for the 2 or 3 years he is retired again.

Oh sh-, my bad. I stupidly listened to a Gator fan at the grocery store telling me Meyer's not coaching the Bowl. Well good for him, finishing up for his team. I can respect that.

Thanks, guys.

Okay, one more time...

I once told a boss that I was quitting because I had found another job that paid better, but in reality I just didn't like working for him.

Oh, the hypocrisy!! Will you ever forgive me Sooner13?

(At what point did we ever decide that people had to be 100% honest in their reasons for leaving a job? Coming up with little white lies to make people feel better about your departure sounds like good social sense.)

I just don't fall in line with herd mentality, especially the notion that people like Urban are inherently evil. He coached one game against us and because his team won we spend countless time working up hostility at his every move.

Now, if he coached Texas, that would be different.

So its herd mentality if we don't like Urban, but its not if we don't hate Mack?

Sometimes people with the same interests (hmm, like maybe those posting on a football message board) think the same thoughts. It doesn't mean its herd mentality, it just means that a lot of us happen to have the same opinion of the piece of ****.

I think you're missing his point. Don't get caught up in the "herd mentality" remark. Would there be so much Florida hate if they didn't beat us in the Orange Bowl? Probably not. Tim Tebow is annoying as f***, but I blame the media for his overexposure. Florida fans should be hating on Urban Meyer more than anybody else, but what has he done to OU other than beating us? The guy is clearly torn between something he loves to do (coach) and something he needs to do (stop coaching). Sure he could have handled it better, but give the guy a break. Once again, the media takes a lot of blame for all the drama.

Same thing with Boise State. Their cardinal sin in the eyes of OU fans is that they beat us. The hype surrounding that victory is obnoxious, but again, that's the media's fault.

And Oregon...really? Unless you think they paid off the referees in that game*, there's no reason to hate Oregon. Hating a team solely because they beat us--even if it was due to ****ty refereeing--is aggy.

*If you do think this, take off the tinfoil hat.

I'm not just talking about the Meyer deal. It's like every post you find an issue with the OP or someone in the thread. You hardly ever just agree or add a comment. In short, you're a contrarian.

I'm always for voicing your opinion or not going with the "herd mentality". However, it gets old when all you do is look for reasons to argue the opposite side. So take a chill pill.. at least until Christmas. :gary:

Let me make it easy for you:

Showing up in Bristol to appear on a show = 1/2 day

Coaching an elite football program = 24 hours a day, every day

Also, spending quality time with your family does not mean spending every minute with them. That would drive all parties nuts. There is definitely a happy medium where everybody has some "me time" and some "family time". When you are working a high profile job like UF HC, you have very, very little of either.

I'm not speaking for UM. I don't know him, nor do I claim to have any insights into his thinking. But your logic in this thread is ridiculous either way.

Quite relevant indeed, Sir: Who are you to say he's a hypocrite just because you -- in all your worldly wisdom -- decline to accept his reasons for stepping down as head coach of a major national college football program? I am absolutely certain that you don't know enough about Urban Meyer to make that sort of judgment, especially if you think showing up for ESPN is equivalent to coaching big-time college football. Does Meyer need to place himself under house arrest to satisfy you? And WTF business is it of yours anyway?

OK OK OK.... I forgot. It's just the internet, so common sense and logic are not prerequisites for posting. My bad. Carry on. :O

I didn't think much of the commentary Urban provided, not because he was away from his family or away from his team or away from doctor to save his fragile health-like state, but rather, because they spent most of the team talking about Tim effing Tebow... and of course, have to get all cute about it "Durr, you're not going to be coaching him again sometimes in the near future, are you?"

I don't think Urbie has a future at ESPN, but they gave Belotti a jorb too, so they'll give any ex-coach a talking job these days, huh? In any event, Utah sucked so much from their dropsies that all the Vegas shots provoked me to slip in the Oceans 13 DVD instead. Spoiler: The casino gets robbed.
