I notice this CBS sports article has no author.
I would like to be the first to tell CBS sports to suck my caulk

Five Most Overrated Teams

1. Oklahoma: The Sooners are the most overrated team over the last five years, and as you might expect, it comes from having a strong, long-term reputation and high expectations. It was their 2009 season that cemented their place at the top. They started 2009 at No. 3 and dropped completely out of the polls by season’s end. They were overrated four of the last five years, but two of those (2008 and 2006) were very minor, one-spot changes. On the other hand, 2005 was another year of unmet expectations with the Sooners dropping from No. 7 in the preseason to No. 22 in the final. In the last five preseasons, Oklahoma has never been underestimated.

2010 Prognosis: The Sooners started the 2010 preseason ranked No. 7, which was the largest jump for an unranked team in the 2009 final poll. In the 2010 pre-bowl poll, Oklahoma is ranked No. 9. Not bad work by the voters, but the Sooners will need to win their bowl game to avoid staying on the list another year.

The author is ignorant of anything outside of looking at baseless preseason rankings and the subsequent final rankings. 2005 was a huge rebuilding year, we lost AD for like 4 games and Blowmar was unimpressive. 2009 was the most injury-laden season that I have ever seen. Not much you can do when over 50% of your starters are always hurt, then their backups are hurt.

There are other factors to consider than just pre and post season ranking when determining if a team was overrated. I will say that in 2005 we were overrated if we were rated #7, but give me a break on the rest of it. Just someone that hates the Sooners trying to get a shot in anonymously.

Bingo. Hell they are overrated right now at #13.

Without Virginia Tech on that list, it's worthless.

Edit: Heh, you guys beat me to it.

We had a 5 loss season which we finished unranked, and a 4 loss season which w finished barely ranked if ranked at all. The other years we were in BCS Bowls and I think only finished in the top 10 one of those years. It's flat out impossible for us to have been overrated.

oh no!!! we were preseason #7 and now we are #9!!

I think the AP might just suck with their preseason rankings.

Someone should let the AP know that their polls and opinions mean jack **** in college football today.

Sometimes journalist are forced to write fill pieces when they have promised work they fell through on. If I'd have wrote that POS I wouldn't want my Editor giving me credit either.

Isn't CBS sports part of the ratings system? I guess they are saying they do a poor job...

(Anyone that rated OU highly in the '05 preseason in a total rebuilding year doesn't understand football)

Two problems with this argument.

1. When you are ranked really high, it is far easier to fall than rise. So "overrated" teams are always going to be teams that typically perform very well.

2. Preseason rankings are not designed to predict end-of-the-year results. They are simply ratings assigned to teams based on their current perceived strengths.

2005 was the only year I'd say that we failed to meet expectations. 2006 preseason rankings were taking into consideration a second year with Bomar, and we lost him right after the rankings came out. Last year was a complete clusterfudge due to injuries. And where were we in the preseason in 2007? Gotta think that with an unknown QB we weren't too high, yet we won the BXII.

A team being over or under rated is a reflection on the voters, not the teams themselves.
This story by CBS ranks right up there in importance with the ukon women's streak.

It is painfully obvious this ***-clown has zero freakin clue. I mean really, we are overrated and boise state underrated...you can't turn NCAA FB on ANYWHERE without someone deepthroating those blue turf fags. That's just my take, I could be wrong but I doubt it.

the list is based on the polls so the list is accurate by the numbers. Numbers don't lie the beauty pageant judges do! The voters were the under performers, not the Sooners. :D

Wonder if the author was a Leader or a Legend? Or possibly another "mighty SEC" doooooosh? No 'overated' article should be written that doesn't have those two conferences holding down the top two spots!

Yep.

Every year there is a school or two or three that seemingly "come out of nowhere."

So, the traditional, perennial powers are very rarely going to "overachieve."

Ok, I'll play.....Lets just rank OU at #25 following OUr 57-7 UCONN STOMP, and then BEAT THE MUD out of every team we play next season and ROCKET to the #2 SLOT and then BEETCH SLAP Alabamer for the CRYSTAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then can we PLEASE be a Quality RANKED TEAM?

I don't know which one is dumber; the underrated or overrated?

Overrated:
1. OU - I'm sure everybody would love a chance to play us.
2. Cal - Maybe?
3. Florida State - You're an idiot if you continued to have high expectations for FSU
4. Tennessee - Nobody considers them one of the elite SEC teams. They're considered a middle-of-the-pack SEC team, and that's right where they belong.
5. Michigan - WTF? Who thinks highly of Michigan anymore? The same people who think that Michgan/OSU is still the best rivalry in football?

Underrated:
1. TCU: They were awarded a BCS bowl game, and then showed the world that their starting quarterback couldn't play on a single Big XII team.
2. Alabama: Was crowning you guys NC not enough?! We basically crowned them again this year in the pre-season...which of course didn't work out.
3. Cincinnati: They've lost to the "most overrated" team in college football 2 or 3 times? They also took part in one of the most embarrassing BCS bowl games ever played. Overrated would make more sense.
4. Boise State: They play nobody and are widely considered the best non-BCS school in the nation. They're pretty darn good, but they definitely aren't top-notch BCS school quality. BTW, where is the love for Utah? Utah is probably the most deserving to be on this list of any of the non-BCSers
5. Oregon: **** you.

What a load of crap. We also had two future first round picks out the entire season and a boatload of other starters injured.

And no let up for next year. The Sooners have already been mentioned as a preseason No. 1 for next year. Nowhere, but nowhere, to go but down. Doomed to underachive regardless of how well they do.

Yes, expectations are high perennially. Boomer Sooner!
