Weezer is a cool band. I find Numan to be more musically interesting, however.

since i'm just 20 years old, i view the 90's as the best music EVAR. i know the 60's and 80's were considered better or the best, but i think most of the music from that time period is total crap.

anyway...

i still can't really stand to hear either of them anymore

The 80s are considered the best? By whom? Guys wearing spandex and androgynous women? And electronic drums and synth solos?

And there's a bunch of others. Particularly just about everything off of Badmoterfinger. But those stand out to me.

I have experienced music all the way back into the early 1960s and I would say that for creativity and breaking the barriers the 1980s (and very late 1970s) were the best. I think music was at its most experimental during that time and has dropped off considerably since. The only glaring exception that comes to mind is Tool. We really haven't had a new sound come out in quite awhile.

I wouldn't characterize the 1980s by spandex any more than I would the 1970s by disco platforms or the 1990s by grunge clothing.

Thankfully I as able to close the window in time before the music started. NSFW if you have colleagues that admire your musical tastes.

Smashing Pumpkins - completely overshadowed by Nirvana. And I'm not talking about Melloncollie and the Infinite Sadness crap.

I nearly wore out my CD player spinning Dirt. When it still existed I remember staying up late to watch Headbanger's Ball on MTV just so I could try to catch this video and also catch Soundgarden's Rusty Cage video.

OK, I tried to stay out of this one, but I can't. The best decade for Rock & Roll was the 70's. No contest! (Disco withholding, BTW)

Anyone who thinks the 90's can stand up to Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Santana, Journey, Styx, Kansas, Van Halen, Eagles, Heart, etc, etc, etc, is just unaware or delusional.

Now, the 90's has a few nice bands with some talent, but the volume of material that has stood the test of time from the 70's is staggering.

Late 60s was pretty good with Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Joplin and Big Brother, Birds, Eric Burdon, Elvis, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, just of the top of my head.

Those were some great bands, but except for Pink Floyd and Led Zep they didn't really push the boundaries. Good stuff, but not musically interesting. Styx? Eagles? Heart? I would have put Black Sabbath in there before Heart and certainly before that pathetic excuse for a band Journey.

I will give it up to the 1970s for Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, and Devo. But they did some of their best work in the 1980s. The same goes for the bands on the Ralph Records label. The Ramones rocked too.

I agree with you that the 1990s didn't have as much to offer. If you scan the vids posted here, they pretty much reflect a very narrow (and uncreative) genre.

Leroy,

I was just naming bands off the top of my head as they popped in. There is no rhyme or reason in the order. I left out tons. My point is that there is no contest which decade contributed more, imo. 70's!

What about Hadyn. He basically taught Beethoven and Mozart everything they knew. Seriously I'm a fan of all music.
