Finch will miss bowl game with injury

NORMAN — Roy Finch, Oklahoma’s freshman running back, will miss the upcoming Fiesta Bowl due to a recurrence of a stress fracture injury in his left foot suffered during Friday’s practice.

Team physicians performed surgery Saturday to insert two pins.

OU Head Coach Bob Stoops said Finch will be sidelined for 6-7 weeks, but is expected back in time for the team’s spring workouts.

Friday’s injury occurred in a non-contact drill.

Finch missed the first five games of the season with a similar injury.

In eight games, Finch rushed 85 times for 398 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught 10 passes for 49 yards.

Finch’s absence will mean more playing time for senior Mossis Madu and freshman Brennan Clay.

Madu had 58 carries for 251 yards and one touchdown. He also had 11 receptions for 66 yards. Clay had 36 rushes for 130 yards and three receptions for13.

Too bad this had to happen to Finch. Madu is a good player. The fumble issue has been serious for him, but I'm ready and willing to see him play. I know he'll give it all he's got.

This sucks for Finch, but I'm glad Madu will get a chance to shine in his final game. Finch still has a whole career ahead of him. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the final game of Madu's football career.

What you expect them to say. I like Madu, he didn't seem all hurt that he lost the starting job. He understood why he lost the job and that he's going to have to change that for the bowl game.
