As this is being handled through private lawyers, one has gotta think that any legal proceedings or threat of legal proceedings will end with a confidentiality agreement to keep the NCAA at bay.

UT investigating complaint against athletic official Cleve Bryant

08:50 PM CDT on Monday, October 18, 2010

By CHUCK CARLTON / The Dallas Morning News
[email protected] ([email protected]) AUSTIN – Cleve Bryant, Texas' associate athletic director for football operations, has confirmed that school officials are investigating a complaint against him.

Bryant, at 63 a key member of Mack Brown's staff since 1998, has denied any wrongdoing in a letter from his attorney that was released Monday and obtained by The Morning News.

"Cleve Bryant is aware than an accusation has been made against him to University of Texas (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/University_of_Texas) officials," read the letter from Bryant's Austin-based attorney, Tom Nesbitt. "The accusation against Mr. Bryant is false."

The letter indicated that Bryant understands "that every allegation, no matter how incredible, must be investigated" under school policy and that he would cooperate with university officials. The nature of the complaint was not detailed.

California-based attorney Gloria Allred (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Gloria_Allred), who has handled numerous high-profile cases, said she is representing a woman who was a former part-time athletic department employee "in reference to Mr. Bryant."
Bryant has taken administrative leave of absence for personal reasons, along with his wife, Jean, a counselor at the university.

Texas officials have declined to comment. Brown said the university was handling the matter during his Monday news conference.

In a brief phone interview, Allred said she had "no comment in what is involved in the matter."

In the letter, Nesbitt indicated that the leave of absence was at Bryant's request.

"He was not involuntarily placed on leave," the letter reads. "After Mr. Bryant was instructed not to discuss the investigation with several co-workers with whom he works closely on a daily basis, he requested a leave of absence to avoid even the perception that he was talking with potential witnesses or interfering in the university's investigation."

The letter indicated that Jean Bryant took a leave of absence for similar reasons.

"Mr. Bryant deeply regrets any distraction this has caused and knows that a thorough investigation will clear him of this false accusation," the letter concluded.

IM NOT WEARING ANY PANTS

Latest rumor flowing through the tubes is that the Cleve Bryant situation has potentially gone from bad to HOLY EFFING **** WE ARE SCREWED. Gloria Allred's investigation apparently got a few other women to come forward with potential claims (****ing lawyers, amirite?) against more people than just Bryant (if you just thought to yourself "oh God, this sounds bad..." well, you're probably right) and if you remember, the wheels definitely did come off at the exact same time the Cleve Bryant thing came out. So, this is something to keep any eye on.AND...

From Bobby Burton of 247sports:
While that rumor may be legitimate, the university is not commenting.
The bottom line, however, is that putting [WRs coach Bobby Kennedy] on leave is a questionable tactic.
What needs to be done is him being relieved of his duties for on-field performance. And then if there is a law suit, then let the law suit play out separately, but don't let Kennedy use accusations or allegations as a springboard for wrongful termination.

So, I'm guessing Bobby Kennedy has been named in at least some capacity by women who came forward in the Cleve Bryant investigation. This is what we in the legal industry like to refer as REALLY ****ING BAD. I understand that this hasn't (thank God) become widespread in the mainstream media, but it puts the football team and the whole university in a really bad light. Multiple plaintiffs? With allegations against multiple members of the football staff? Are you kidding? Remember when I said I'd rather lose with good kids than win with felons? I feel the same way about my university's coaching staff. I really never thought anything like this was really possibility under Mack Brown.

Just think about how this will look to a jury (or a judge) if it gets legs: a bunch of testosterone fueled, misogynist gorillas groping and harassing their way through the female support staff. Actually, that's how it looks to me, so it's probably doesn't sound nearly as bad as whatever Gloria Allred will sell to a jury if this goes to trial.

When it was just Cleve Bryant, it looked like it was an isolated incident from an outsider who only reports to Mack. Right now, it looks more and more like it's pervasive throughout the whole coaching staff.

Wow. Just wow. If this is as widespread as it seems, I want everyone involved gone. If Mack knew about it and did nothing, I want him gone too. Forget the performance on the field so far, this is WAY worse than watching us take a dump on the 50 yard line against Baylor.Apparently there are allegations out there that other coaches were involved (I saw WR coach Kennedy's name in several locations).

If Gloria Allred is involved, it usually means that someone with less than noble intentions tried to benefit from illicit activity, but has found a lawyer who can turn her into a victim.

My guess? Members of the Angels program were coerced into providing sexual favors for players or recruits, and now these girls (I won't call them ladies) are claiming to be damaged (that is, beyond mere morals).

In the end, this will probably expose yet another hostess program as a prostitution ring.

IMHO, Gloria Allred is every bit as opportunistic as the Rev Al Sharpton. Some of the things I have seen her do and say on camera or in the newspaper are highly unethical. As far as selling it to a jury, that does not seem to be her style. She plays it up for the media, makes life so miserable for the accused, that they are willing to give her and her client some bucks just to go away.

She is an example of the type of people who made me consider my options and get out of the practice of law.

Im thinking it was already covered up, which is the problem. I am thinking, with absolutely nothing to back it up other than appearances, that a girl was probably assaulted and they tried to hush it up. TX has run a loose ship for years when it comes to discipline. It is bound to catch up, no matter how good their cleaner is.

By Randy RIggs (http://www.soonerfans.com/forums/ mailto: [email protected] ) | Friday, December 17, 2010, 06:56 PM
The UT System Board of Regents discussed possible candidates to become the Longhorns’ new offensive and defensive coordinators, and what it will cost to hire them, in executive session on Friday.
In a special called teleconference, the regents then publicly authorized coach Mack Brown and men’s athletic director DeLoss Dodds to make the hires “consistent with the parameters” that were discussed in the closed-door session. Dodds attended the meeting, Brown did not.
Brown is in the market for four coaches, including the offensive coordinator position vacated when Greg Davis’ resignation was announced Dec. 6, and the defensive coordinator post when head-coach designate Will Muschamp accepted the head-coaching job at Florida a week ago.
UT President William Powers said after the brief meeting that he has “absolute faith and confidence that (Brown) will make the right choices, and that process is ongoing.”
“Today we just made sure that we had whatever authorizations we had from the board to execute these contracts,” Powers added. “That’s all that happened. They (Brown and Dodds) now have authorization to move forward.”

Reports: Texas targeting Alabama's Jim McElwain to fill vacant offensive coordinator position
McElwain interviewed for the head coaching job at Colorado recently and his level of interest in Texas is unknown.
Last season when Alabama beat Texas in the national championship, McElwain headed an offense that gained more yards from scrimmage than any offense in Alabama history (5,642 yards). The Tide also had the nation's 12th-ranked rushing attack that averaged 215.1 yards per game. This season, Alabama currently ranks 27th in total offense and 21st in scoring and will be playing in the Capital One Bowl against Michigan State on Jan. 1.
McElwain knows how to scheme a balanced offensive attack, but he's especially good at running the ball. In his three years at Alabama, he's coached Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson and before that he coached Ryan Matthews at Fresno State as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Texas is getting the nation's best tailback next season in Malcolm Brown and will need a coach that understands how to use him.

GEEEEEEEZZZZZZ horns fans...... chill will ya. This article is just a statement by the University President ( who by the way was one of my T law professors at one time) indicating the authorization to hire. A necessary procedural step. All this stinging criticism I have read over the last couple of days from posters to various sports writer articles is laughable. Please take a deep breath and think rationally. The University is one of the best in the nation. That's a fact. The various sports programs, football, baseball and basketball and the other less publicized ones are still considered to be elite. The reason to mention this is to simply remind the true fans that we know the expectations are always high for any UT endeavor. Specifically we have gotten ho hum about the success of our football program so when there is a season such as the one just completed we seem to not recognize right away or appreciate the good fortune we have had for the past decade. I submit that Coach Brown has a proven record of success and is so committed to the tradition and image of the UT football program that he will do all in his power to make the staff adjustments necessary for correction of the known deficiencies for both the offense and defense. He is so highly regarded throughout the college football world that there will be no difficulty for him in getting applications for those vacant coaching positions and the hardest part of the process is choosing amoung so many highly qualified applicants. I fully expect that all of us "Orange bloods" will be please with his selections and that by this time next year we will be looking forward to the bowl game we will be playing in. As for the detractors and false fans who denigrate the coach and the program. Jealousy is never a pretty thing to see and envy is even more ugly. Give Gilbert and McCoy a little protection and Texas will play the "We Score More Than They Do", who cares if it's 49-42? I seldom agree with any comments here, but Crockergator got it right, without having recruited Vince Young, Major Applewhite, Colf McCoy and before that, James Street, Texas would have been just another team for years! Texas 've had respectable defense and numerically speaking good offense from 2000-2009. The problems during GD era were failure during big games & lack of game time adjustments. Consequently, VY, Colt & a lot of talented players had to bail out OC in 4th quarters in come back wins (instead of steam rolling against lesser opponents). With a new dynamic, creative, passionate and aggressive OC and DC, Texas could have another great run and lesser missed opportunities to win championships.

By How many losses next year before Mack is fired?

Ugh. We got a 60-year-old coach and a 72-year-old athletic director trying to hire 30-something coordinators. Maybe Texas-Austin can find a Metamucil Bowl that will take the Horns. If Mack can keep from having another losing season next year; Garrett Gilbert at QB and Will Muschamp NOT at defensive coordinator does not inspire confidence.

Go Mack! Get some talent on staff to match the talent you have in player personnel, and we might win more than 5 games. Hook'em!

But...but...* is as pure as the driven snow! Our players, boosters, and coaches have never, ever cheated or broke the law like OU, A&M, SMU, etc...

Bwahahahahahahahahaha!

Prepare For The Next Big Deadspin ****storm (http://deadspin.com/5714769/prepare-for-the-next-great-deadspin-****-storm)

Monday morning, Dec. 20, will mark the beginning of some not-so-relaxing days for a handful of current and former professional athletes, college coaches, and, of course, ESPN employees. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls: dying time's here.

Metaphorically speaking, that is. Yes, once again, we're going to start unloading some of the Deadspin almost-stories that we've been sitting on throughout the year that, for multiple reasons, never got published. Some of these almosts were spiked due to the exorbitant prices demanded by the scuzz-money artists. Some had sources clam up and change their minds when things became too intense. Other stories just became moldy real quick and weren't worth the follow-through. But, as far as we know, they're all true.

Of course, we'll have to keep some characters cloaked in not-so-blind items.

For the most part, though, you'll get another guided tour of our slaughterhouse, where you can marvel at how carefully we bludgeon our cows with rowing oars in order to make such damn tasty sausage.

This is the best end-of-year roundup we could come up with, and one that we think you'll find both fascinating and newsworthy.

Consider the first three days of next week an early thank you for your continued support of Deadspin in 2010 and, hopefully, 2011. And please enjoy the holiday party weekend with Brian Hickey. Try his eggnog. I hear it's got some kick.

I have not seen a word of this in The Statesman or any mention on any TV station.

The cover up continues?

this better involve strippers, coeds, cocaine/meth and midgets or I'm going to be really disappointed

I love this quote.

Yeah, this could get interesting. However it makes you wonder that hopefully OU has nothing that they should be worried about.
