I prefer Tempe just because it was the original and I live in the area...

Not organizing a get-together...too much work for no thrills...but I will be tailgating with the loud music near the lawn with lots of drinks all day on 1/1!

Here's the latest info from the PHX OU club. We're all going to the game, of course, since it's local. Looks like the Tailgating will be the big social get-together. I will get a ticket to the "World's Greatest Bowl pregame party" or whatever it's called. noon-5PM game day:

Let’s tailgate! I need help planning a tailgate gathering … I ran into Joe in the mall last night (He walked by and said Boomer Sooner … took him 2 times before those beloved words soaked in and I started looking for where it came from!), we discussed tailgating and he has already volunteered to help us out with some of the planning. Having said that, we would love some others to help out as well. Anyone gifted in the art of tailgating and interested in helping organize a great pregame tailgate? Please email me ….

I will email everyone else the plans once the have been all pulled coordinated! Check your emails after Christmas!

The Players:

I have heard from several of you concerning staffing the hospitality suites for the players. I have called the Fiesta Bowl and left a voicemail. So far they have not contacted me at all about needing help. As soon as I hear I will send out another email … I had hoped to have heard from them by now so I could include it in this email … but I am tired of holding up this information about tickets and tailgating.


I talked to OU and because ticket sales and the interest in this game is quite low … they aren’t doing a Boomer Bash or any kind of event outside of the Fiesta Bowl’s big pregame festivities there at the stadium. L

Other stuff:

Mike Knall is involved in organizing a post-game gathering. I have attached the flier he sent our way. Please check it out … looks like a lot of fun!


One last thing …. Lisa Barry won the final quarter of squares during the Big XII game … so Lisa, if you send me your email address then I will send you a check!

NEW YEARS EVE at the TILTED KILT SCOTTSDALE:

This is an early party, probably 6-10ish PM. I'm sure the place will be open past midnight, too, for those that want to stay and celebrate the new Year there. The PHX OU club will put this on, for all OU fans. There will be a couple of old OU games(victories, of course) that will be on the various TV's there, including one with Josh Heupel, as I understand it. Also, the FL State versus old Ball Coached team will be on live at that time, on some of the TK's TVs.

I will post the official email when I get it. Would love to see Soonerfans.com folks show up. Even the politically correct guys n' dolls.

Fellow Sooners,

I have a couple of things to get out there so please read below:

First of all … I am still working on the tailgating. We seem to have a mix of Sooners in the red lot and other in the green lot … so I am trying to figure out where the biggest majority will be parking. As soon as I get it figured out … I will send out an email about the tailgating. Hang tight!

Secondly … the Scottsdale Tilted Kilt has invited us to come out on New Year’s eve and have a little pre-game party. We thought 6pm – 10pm (or later if you want to stay longer). Trey and I have some old OU game DVD’s we will have on some of the t.v.’s and there is a bowl game that night too that we will have on the other t.v.’s. Please spread the word to everyone you know that is a Sooner … it would be great to have a big crowd of locals and out-of-towners together prior to the game! Apparently the Tilted Kilt isn’t typically busy on New Year’s eve so we won’t have a bunch of wild partying folks around us.

Thirdly … I had someone offer tickets (2) for anyone that is involved in the Big Brother or Big Sister program to go to the game with their Little Brother or Little Sister. If you happen to be involved with this great program and would be interested in attending the game please let me know!

Finally … I have not heard a thing from the Fiesta Bowl committee about volunteering for the hospitality suite for our boys. I had a couple of you alumni email and call the same person I tried to contact … and since I haven’t heard anything from anyone … it would seem that they aren’t doing that this year. Sorry … but it’s awesome that we had folks want to volunteer!

I suggest you hunker down in Glendale and go to the Yard House. Or, try the Peoria TK location - it's less than 15 minutes from the Glendale sports complex hotels.

A cab fare to the TK / Scottsdale will be > $50 + tip, each way. That's a lot of beer within walking distance of the Yard House.

Cabs are not like NY in this area, but they came pretty quickly for us when we had the bartender call for us.

We are going to all gather in the NW corner of the Cabellas parking lot at 2:30pm so that we can all drive in together and park together. We will LEAVE the Cabelas parking lot at exactly 2:50 and go over and start getting our tailgate on! They won?t let you save parking spots this seems to be the best way for us all to get in the same area. (Thanks Joe Curry for coming up with this brilliant masterplan!)
