Manuel Johnson to replace Ogletree

Ogletree To Miss Rest Of Season

Ogletree will be replaced on the active roster by 2009 seventh-round wide receiver Manuel Johnson.

IRVING, Texas - Kevin Ogletree's second season is now over, just as it was finally getting started.

After seeing a foot specialist, the receiver said Monday night he feared the worst about his injured right toe, which has him in a walking boot for the time being. Indeed, the Cowboys plan to place the former undrafted free agent on the season-ending injured reserve on Wednesday.

While Ogletree initially believed he would be fine, the prognosis got worse as the pain increased since Sunday night, when he was hurt in a pile on a fourth quarter kickoff return.

Ogletree and Jason Garrett both said there is no bone damage, but the receiver has already been scheduled for surgery this week, and the Cowboys are compelled to place him on the IR to free up room on the 53-man roster.

That opening will go to 2009 seventh-round pick Manuel Johnson, who lost a battle with Ogletree for a job last season, but has been on the team's practice squad ever since. Johnson, who played collegiately at Oklahoma, could also fill one of Ogletree's roles as a kickoff returner.

After suiting up for the first month of the season, Ogletree was made inactive from Week 6 until Week 13 at Indianapolis. He got his first extended opportunity against Philadelphia on Sunday night, playing as the No. 3 wide receiver in relief of rookie Dez Bryant, who is out for the year. Ogletree had three catches for 34 yards in the first half to lead the Cowboys in both categories.

The 24-year-old Johnson (5-11, 200) had eight receptions for 78 yards this preseason, and two catches for 29 yards in the 2009 exhibitions.

Hell yeah, I wish he had Romo throwing to him but maybe he can do something with his limited opportunities.

I would like to see them hit Johnson on a fade route. I'm an avid Boys fan, and the reason he didn't have good preseason numbers is lets face it he had Stephen McGee throwing to him, which is a worthless project that didn't even start his senior season.

best of luck to him. Kitna seems to hate throwing to Austin, so maybe some of those looks will be to Manny

Ogletree was targeted about or 4 or 5 times last game...due to injuries, this is a great opportunity..he'll get an opportunity to catch 2 or 3 a game

S.T.E.P. Is Manny considered a legitimate deep threat by NFL standards? I'd love to see him do well and get picked up by St. Louis to play catch with Sammy. Probably lacks height to be considered a #1 receiver though.

No he isn't considered a deep threat guy...Manny has worked hard and polished up his game a lot while on the practice squad, but he is very limited as a WR..doesn't have great size, or speed, but has improved in creating separation...Hands have been streaky since entering the NFL

I think the thing that will be more interesting to see is if Dallas does use him on ST...because that adds value to him..Ogletree only caught 3 passes all season, but he stayed on the roster with ST value..

Sounds like this will be a great chance to get some actual game tape of Manny and if he does a good job, he'll draw some interest from other teams. While I love having any Sooner on the Cowboys, I just don't think Manny's chances of getting any real significant playing time in the future are not that great.

Hopefully he can take this opportunity to turn a few heads and land on a team looking for some WR depth.

Manny just needs to use his ninja skills to just appear behind the opponents secondary like he did at OU.
