Texas plants this Stoops to "insert name here" each year at this time to try to disrupt our recruiting. Since they have recruited each year's incoming class at least 3 years previously, they have lots of time on hand this part of the season, especially when they can't practice.

I love the ShaggyBevo thread because it provides such insight into the mindset of UT fans. Just wade through and notice the pattern:

First, many UT fans claim that losing Will is no big deal and are LOLing at Stoops leaving for Florida.

Then, the news breaks and they consider it an epic disaster.

Finally, they turn on their fellow Horn fans who said Will wasn't leaving.

but the fact is, Cowherd said it was a headcoach not an assistant.

yet another great thing about today, Cowherd looks like the dip**** that he is. I can't wait to see how he spins this. I'm sure he'll say that Stoops was signed and delivered until the last min and then he backed out and UF went with plan B.

A huge hire for Florida. A big loss for Texas.

Coach-in-waiting... a moniker that doesn't mean much, except for a healthy Texas salary.

Looks like Texas is rebuilding the ENTIRE team with new assistant coaches, QB, and running backs. Plus graduating a few more NFL caliber defensive players... what a huge exodus.

I know this thread is supposed to be about Florida... but I think it affects Texas much more so!

This is "The Day After" in Austin and it is nuclear desolation. Muschamp, their supposed successor to Brown and best recruiter, Applewhite (Malcolm Brown's primary recruiter) and Duane Akina are all gone to Florida. In one fail swoop, Texas lost their three best recruiters.

Six coaches (so far) off the Texas staff. Continuity is a very, very underrated ingredient to success in major college football. Texas staff has been decimated and is left with the scraps.

Don't stand under any tall buildings in downtown Austin today. Please excuse me now. I have to go out to sweep all the nuclear ash out of my yard.

I love it. Some Texas fans I know were emailing me, rejoicing that we were getting ready to lose Coach Stoops to Florida. Now they're having a major meltdown over losing Muschamp. How funny. :D
The ones that I know have already accepted the fact that Bob wasn't going anywhere, most accepted that after the last Florida run at Bob when he turned them down before they hired Urban. They don't even bother to poke at me anymore when those rumors start. They tend to be not as delusional as many of the others around here.

Local sportsradio on Friday wouldn't let it go. But that doesn't top my boss e-mailing me at 2:30 on Saturday saying the rumors had heated up, despite me pointing out everything wrong with that. To his credit he emailed me at 7:30 with the "FML" message.

When Texas announced Muschamp was the head coach in waiting, I had no idea it meant he was waiting for the Florida job.

Nice of Dodds and Jeremy Foley to work so closely together.

Something about the title "Head Coach in Waiting" is very emo.

*Really* nice of Dodds to double Muschamp's pay when he applied the "coach in waiting (for Florida)" tag. Slapping down an extra $450k/year is a grander gesture than buying the next round of drinks.

Wow, Just Wow! I board a flight from Singapore to go home to Houston. Call the wife at a refueling stop in Moscow. She lays Muschump to UF on me. Mack must be going ape excrement! :mack: Looks like he might end up replacing almost his entire coaching staff... Good Times!!! He can't leave UT as the AD job isn't open yet.

Singapore Airlines,

Excellent choice

Are those solar panels? If so, they cost more than the house.

Maybe not: A solar-panel glut could cut costs (http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/news/2010/12/10/dbj-on-cbs4.html)

I would bet they are skylights, for "flow-thru ventilation" with the side windows.

I can see Mack coming into the office Monday morning and starting a recruiting meeting with the remaining coaching staff with the fast clap on overdrive.

Will any more rats be fleeing the sinking ship?

I still can't believe this. UF is a TOP tier program, and this is a stretch at best...a real reach. And now we see he's bringing in Applewhite as OC?? Lol. Foley is full of crap telling people this is the only guy they wanted. Whether he's telling the truth or not, I predict both he AND Muschamp will be on the market fairly quickly. There were WAY too many proven commodities out there, and UF IS one of the programs that should be able to pick and choose. And there aren't many programs that could outbid them.

Oh well...I look forward to my Tide and WM's mentor Saban owning the gators for quite some time...:)

Yep - I think Florida just conceded the SEC to Alabama for the next few years. While WM is an adequate, if overrated, DC, he's not a leader of a program and I think it'll prove true soon enough. For that matter neither is Chizik, and Auburn after Cam Newton won't have any staying power imo. Chizik's deal is defense, and they suck at that, so yeah I expect Saban to out-recruit and out-coach his competition in the conference for a while (save for a few hilarious Les Miles 4th quarters here and there, of course).

Remind me again about how much HC experience Stoops had when Oklahoma hired him.

Foley is the best AD in the business. He isn't going anywhere.

When I was driving back to Norman from Colorado today, the Denver sports were all abuzz about how bad they looked against AZ, but then they got into Tebow, the so-called quarterback in waiting. Seems people in the know said that Tebow was not drafted for this year or 2011 but for 2012. Tebow hasn't progressed and cannot throw accurately down the field very often, is slow when running in the NFL, and has not grasped the fast pace of the NFL which is also why the owner doesn't want him out there to show the fans what a huge mistake they made in giving up three draft picks to pick him up in the first round. All the shows were ripping the owner of the Bronco's and his GM who moved from the financial side to the football side and has little knowledge of drafting but inserted himself in the 2010 draft. Several of the callers in the know ripped Tebow but good and the owner for making him a #1 round draft pick.

Then another program had someone on that talked about other conferences don't recruit against the SEC because they don't pay players to sign with them and that Auburn was the tip of the iceberg for pay to play in the SEC. Also said that Urban Meyers wouldn't play ball in paying for recruits. Said he was told by a major recruiter from another conference who also said this was one reason that Meyer is leaving coaching in the SEC. Big offenders are supposedly Auburn, AL, LSU, and Vanderbilt (?) which doesn't seem to be working at Vanderbilt.

That'll go to show you to listen to callers on radio shows mom! Why would CUM care about it, if he's still pulling in top 2 and 3 recruiting classes year after year? Beating everybody in the SEC but maybe Bama???

The answer is, he doesn't! There's other reasons.

Stoops was the exception and not the rule, and it was a unique set of circumstances in Norman as I recall back in 1998/99. Most elite programs want an established HC. UF IS an elite program and not one that can have HC's on training wheels--or so I thought.

I'm not saying Muschamp will bomb but the gators could have done much better.
