I know that there is a thread or two about Stoops going to Florida (or not). But ESPN is now saying that Stoops is in contract negotiations with Florida. I hope he isn't leaving us! I would be surprised if he did

Yeah it's an insider article saying that he is working through contract negotiations. I say BS.

He also has great shots at the NC lined up for next year, whereas Florida is just garbage right now, with absolutely no talent on the offensive side of the ball.

I don't get this. If Stoops really wanted to be the head coach of Florida would a house hold him back? No. Not saying that he wants to go to Florida, just saying a house isn't a good reason for someone to stay when they are making close to 5 mil a year.

A lateral move for Stoops. I can't see him leaving unless he was disgruntled with OU. I think he's very happy with things as they are.

Could just be a little power play to get more $$$$.

At the same time last year, he was signing his name to become the head coach of Notre Dame, too. According to "insiders".

I agree but the reason isn't the house. It's not like they just moved in. They have never lived in it.

It wouldn't make much sense for him to leave. The house is a small issue. But he wouldn't be stepping up in pay a whole lot, he's built a very successful program, the school and fanbase love him, he's loaded for a run next year, his kids have basically grown up here. It seems a little early for him to start planning his retirement.

Right before the Army-Navy game, Spencer Tillman basically said Dan Mullen is a shoe-in and that Stoops is staying put. I get the feeling he has a few "sources".

Switzer once said you can sell a da#€ house.

The house is not a reason to stay. There are tons of other ones like uprooting the kids etc. on the personal front. Great returning players on the professional front.

He may be talking to them to get yet another raise out of OU, or he may be deciding he needs a change of scenery. In which case, thanks for bringing OU back to where it belongs. OU will still compete for championships.

I'm sitting here chatting with someone who's the same age as Stoops and last year made the same amount of money, if not more. (Those who know me personally know the back story.)

He pointed out two things that people are getting wrong about this:

1. The house doesn't matter. If you want someone and you have the money you'll just put the house in the contract. This is common practice.

2. The lack of income tax in Florida doesn't matter. They probably make up for it in property tax, of which he'll be paying.

Just wanted to throw this out there because many of us are normal people who aren't in this pay grade and deal with these contract issues.

Hope this clears some things up.

Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops shot down rumors Saturday that he was close to signing a contract with Florida.
GatorCountry.com, a website that covers Florida athletics, reported earlier Saturday that Stoops was “finalizing a contract to become Florida’s next coach.”

When the Tulsa World contacted Stoops via text, asking him to respond to the report, he replied in a text: “Not true, whatsoever.

“I’m out recruiting as we text.”

Maybe SEC reporters have that SEC speed and are faster than Stoops can think. And they know ahead of time before Stoops knows that Stoops is negotiating with Florida.

Also Florida would have to not only pay him 4-5 million bucks they would also have to throw in a buy out for about 2-3 million more. Do they really want to pay around 8 million bucks for a coach?

There is no reason for him to leave. I was just saying hypothetically if he was burned out here and wanted to go back to Gainesville, a house wouldn't prohibit him from doing that. But we all know that's not the case.

Stoops has it so good here he would just have to leave because he wanted to try something else.

I agree that I doubt he goes anywhere. He knows how lucky he is to have the stability and money he has as a major college coach. So very few in his profession ever reach this level of success and stability.

What's even funnier is that you seem to think the people in charge in Gainsville are slobbering all over Bob's **** to take the UF job and he's already turned his nose up at every job he's supposedly been a Candidate for since 2001.

You better talk to the people in charge down there. You'd be smart to get a move on and get serious about gettiing someone who is looking to Coach right now and would consider UF as a place they feel comfortable as HC instead of dreaming that someone who is happy where he's at might suddenly decide to take his Wife and her Business and his Kids out of school put them in a moving van and head towards phlorida. It's laughable.
