But If my recollectin is right , Isn't the reason the TeeVee peeps went to calling the Saxet game the Red River Rivalry . because the Red River War , or the Red River Shootout sounded to violent er some silly **** like that ?

If that be the case , How come whyfore can they call that puny little ole game up there in the North west between them ducks and beavers " THE CIVIL WAR"

Ahhh....the uber corporation ATT (obviously a bastion of liberal bastages).

I wonder if it has netted them more cell customers, being so non-offensive;)

Oh, and yes they did change it from "Shootout" to "Rivalry" because they said "Shootout was no longer "PC".

Red River Rivalry is ghey ghey ghey. And a tongue-twister. Go back to Shootout! That even had the OU and Texas logos within the name, which was awesome.

Me too, which is precisely why I still call the Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium just plain ole Owen Field, and I still refer to the OU/UT game as the "The Red River Shootout". :D

In 2005 it was sponsored by SBC Communications, and the game was officially renamed the SBC Red River Rivalry, with the word "Rivalry" replacing "Shootout" out of a desire not to convey an attitude of condoning gun violence.

I think they need to rename it the Red River *** Whoopin'.

This, It could also be that Dr Pepper also owned the rights to Red River ShootOUt. I always call it Red River War.

I think the more important question is why is a football game between two northwest schools in an area where there were no battles during the civil war the civil war?

I understand in quest to be representative of fact that the OU/OSU game will no longer be called Bedlam. In the future it will called AAK! (Annual A$$ KICKING)
