yeah I'm shocked.. Davis and Mack seemed like a "til death due us part" kind of couple... I wonder if UT threw some $$ at him to resign?

I didn't actually think it would happen... I'd hate to think they could find someone that would make them really good. :(

Yep... I'd rather they stay crappy! lol!

Might as well start the rumor now and help get this guy a raise from T-bone!

Called the head coach CYA. Worked for Georgia where a better season and bowl game saved his job.

Talk about a knee-jerk reaction. One year removed from the BSC NCG and Texas cleans house. This is just Mack blaming everyone but himself.

Mack really is deferring blame, isn't he? The players are entitled, the coaches aren't prepared, the Mack is... hehe. Here's a bevo take on it:

The rest of it, solid gold, right here. (http://www.shaggybevo.com/board/showthread.php/77872-Calling-Dr.-Kevorkian-Texas-Longhorns-Season-Review-In-MS-Paint)

I'll bet the Texas players will be upset at practice today--oh wait, they don't get to practice since they aren't in a bowl. Never mind.

Question: Does the NCAA allow them to practice if they're not bowling?

Mack had to make some major changes and he couldn't fire his DC, since he is destined to be the HC.

No, that is why coaches want to go to any bowl game.

The replacement coaches will be Muschamp hires with Mack's stamp of approval.

I think LL and Blue are right. Mack didn't fire anybody. Davis has been with him from Tulane to NC to ** I think. No way he's firing him. That's big donor stuff and WE all know what happens when THEY start running the program. Maybe the best (worst for **) is yet to come.

Strictly speaking, no one was fired. Davis resigned and the other two , the line coaches, retired. Considering they both had 37 years of coaching experience, I expect resignation is a valid explanation, no doubt with nice severance packages. If Davis resigned then it implies he wants to keep coaching in some capacity.

One resigning, 2 retiring...

Only Mack doing here is letting the 3 of them step down on their own accord otherwise powers-to-be in Austin would be reporting "FIRED".

This would have happened 6 years ago if Greg Davis hadnt quit coaching VY starting with the 2nd half of the poke/whorn game in 2004. Couple that with their WR coach saying you run and catch any ball VY throws no matter where it is on the field, he'll get it within 5-7 yards of where it is intended to be thrown. Follow VY up with Colt who was a better OC on the field than what Texas had sitting in the press box.

Good bye and good riddance. These clowns could not find their way out of a pi$$ soaked paper bag. The only issue is now recruiting. We will be lucky to get 2 star recruits. While Baylor, Iowa St and Texas A&M are kicking our keisters, we are left to languish.
Oh well, we are the bottom feeders of the B12 South now, I think we will be bottom feeding for a while. Guess we should pucker up.
One other thought, we need to get rid of the $5M coach. He is a good recruiter and cheerleader, but he is not a coach. He also whines a bunch.

Mack has lost control of his program, and it started the day the dreaded "Head Coach in Waiting" label was put on Muschamp.

A head coach has to be in control. There can be no confusion about who the boss is.

Now that Mack is firing his best friend, obviously something he wouldn't have done if he were making the calls, his air of authority is gone. Think his players didn't play for him this year? I'm not sure it's going to get much better until Mack is gone now. The Texas AD has stripped him of his manhood.

What would be really funny is is Muschamp leaves. Then Mack has to break in a whole new coaching staff while fighting for his job. That could be some good entertainment.

That was a truly stupid idea. Why would one ever do that? All it does is set up the understudy as a traitorous vulture.
