How dumb have state names become?

I was thumbing thru one of them atlases. I looked at these here United States and I can't believe these dumb names for the states. Did you know there is a Road Island? I mean, where does the road go? There's a North and a South Dakota? Was there a Dakota Civil War that I missed?
