Good body shop, I thought she looked a bit off, then when it mentions her age that explained it.

A higher proportion of wheelchair people have experience some sort of disfiguring accident than the general population.

Also, many of them have unsightly withered limbs and various other deformities.

So, yes, they usually are.

Really? One of the hottest guys I know is in a wheelchair. Talk about upper body muscles. He's a very handsome guy...and also very intelligent, very funny and very kind and compassionate.

Very unlike you, apparently.

Anecdotal and irrelevant.

I neglected to mention that wheelchair people are also disproportionately old and enfeebled. (Although, with the advent of the Hoveround, I'm not sure they can all still be classified as wheelchair people.) Surely we can all agree that the elderly are usually ugly.

There is something about this whole story that just doesn't add up... retired surgeon? Where? How does somebody confined to a wheelchair have that much muscle tone in her legs? She doesn't want to be "sexually assaulted" by the TSA, so she shows off the goods in public and refuses to go through the scanner?

Here is her classmates.com profile photo...

The TSA is out of control, I will grant you. That is perfectly evidenced by the agent ordering the guy to turn off his cell phone camera. But as far as panty lady goes, something about this whole story just screams "attention whore" of the highest magnitude.

And btw, I'm really not trying to be insensitive to people in wheelchairs. I'm just kind of a skeptical person and I would really be interested in knowing more about her background because my bullsh*t detector is going off.

Agree, VK. I saw a CNN news story last week about a woman who wore a bikini for a screening (forget which airport). The wheelchair could very well have been a prop for sympathy and extra attention. Which, of course, she got.

You should try to find somebody to look into this. Someone who has access to the news. Maybe one who can report on such a thing. If only there was someone you knew.

So... the plot thickens. Retired surgeon my a**.

She WAS a dentist. However, her license was revoked by the AZ dental board in 1995 after a number of complaints. For sh*ts and giggles, I will call later today to find out what the complaints were.

http://www.azdentalboard.us/ProDetail.asp?LicenseNoConcatenated=D%20%203999

That did not stop her from calling herself a dentist when she posed for Playboy in 1997. Thanks Lost Ogle! (http://www.thelostogle.com/2010/12/02/tammy-banovac-the-bra-panties-and-wheelchair-lady-at-airport-posed-nude-in-playboy/)

She is currently married to Robert C. Banovac, a multimillionaire real estate developer in Phoenix, although she still has family in Enid.

update--my friend working at a hotel on Meridian drove her to the airport Wed morning. He helped her w her luggage & said she had a Southwest Airlines wheelchair (I guess they let her have it for the night )

She got into and out of the van on her own--said she had "issues" w her back

His quote to me was she's a "plastic beeitch"

**also said she was wearing a trench coat (guess we know what was underneath )

Well... the OK was looking into it too: Here's the story they just posted:

http://newsok.com/article/3519982#disqus_thread

Banovac said she does not normally use a wheelchair, but only in airports, when she has to traverse a long distance or when she has to carry something. She would not say why she uses the wheelchair on those occasions, but said she suffers from seizures. She had what she said was a service dog that can detect the seizures on her lap in the airport incidents Tuesday and Wednesday.

Banovac said she was not trying to draw attention to herself or make a scene.
