TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (ESPN) -- The University of Alabama has fired an employee who played songs aimed at Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton before the Iron Bowl.

University spokeswoman Debbie Lane said Monday that the part-time staffer was fired for the unauthorized songs. "Take the Money and Run" and "Son of a Preacher Man" were played while Newton and the Tigers warmed up.

The NCAA has been investigating allegations that Newton's father, a pastor, solicited $180,000 from Mississippi State during recruiting.

Lane said in a statement that all music and videos played in the stadium before and during games have to be approved by a senior athletic administrator. She said the staffer -- who was not named -- didn't get those songs cleared.

The Tuscaloosa News first reported the firing.

That's weak. Stunts like this is what makes rivalries great and fun.

Playing those songs is hilarious, IMO.

You would probably get a raise at lOSUr for doing that. Not only do they have no football team, but they have no class either. Poor aggies

I think the prank was very funny. It's not like Newton suffered any whatsoever because of it.

Geez, what kind of wimpy administration do they have at Bama? Hopefully, if Joe C. did anything it would have been a standard public statement expressing disappointment & not happening again blah, blah. But to fire the guy? That's going just a bit too far.

OU would have fired the guy in a heart beat rather than face public backlash. That's how OU is. And you can't feel bad for the guy, he did break the rules by going over his bosses head. Still ****ing funny though. :P

What if Alabama won? Would he have still been fired?

This may have just been a situation where they were wanting to get rid of him anyway and this was just the opportunity.
