Jon Gruden may be leaving the Monday Night Football broadcast booth, but not to return to the NFL.

Per Lake Lewis of Sports Journey Broadcast Network, Gruden will take over as head coach at the University of Miami. The deal, which is yet to be finalized, should be worth about $3 million per season.

Gruden’s name was rumored in virtually every head coaching vacancy in the NFL over the past two seasons.

The Canes ousted Randy Shannon following a disappointing 7-5 season and poor attendance.

The University gave Shannon a four-year contract extension prior to the season.

Miami has a good one and of course I'd say that since he coached my Bucs.

I'm thinking that Gruden agreed to this behind the scenes before Shannon was officially "fired"

No other conclusion can be drawn if you fire someone for being 7-5

I don't like this one bit. I'd really prefer Miami to not be good, thanks.

Kevin Sumlin's name is being mentioned a second choice if Gruden doesn't work out.

Gruden has a superbowl ring, how many coaches have a Ring and then GO BACK to the college ranks? Hell of a recruiting pitch in the Sunshine State, and he was in Tampa for awhile.

All I have to say is he better not come after Heupel for OC

that would be a great hire for Miami.

With Shannon gone it'll be interesting to see if the Canes start trying to catch the Gators in APS (Arrests per season)

If they want to win they will

I hope he brings Bill Callahan in to be his OC again.

you have a better chance of him bringing in Childress than Callahan.

Couldn't he get a job in say Dallas or somewhere similar for double that amount?

John Blake and Charlie Weiss were pretty fond of showing recruits their Super Bowl rings.

Yup, Super Bowl rings and success in the college ranks don't necessarily go together.

Gruden is a great coach, but he's a terrible evaluator of talent. I'm a bucs fan and he missed on so many players it was crazy. I'm not shocked he wasn't smart enough to talk up Sam.

No, the pros are not going to pay that kind of money next year.

I don't understand how you can be a good coach if you can't evaluate talent. How do you know what position is best for a player? Wouldn't this hinder a coach, especially a college coach?

I'm a Bucs fan too. I think he's a fair judge of talent. He's a very good x and o's coach and good offensive mind.

Bill Walsh had a few of them when he went back to Stanford.

Gruden is their top choice, but if he doesn't take it I hear they are looking at Dan Mullen from Miss State and keep an eye out for Tommy Tubs to be in contention, too as he was once the DC there.
