A few years ago, going into the OSU game AD needed over 200 yards rushing to hit the 1000yrd mark. The OSU back that year needed less than 100 to hit 1000yrds.

OSU fans had been talking smack about how thy would have a 1000yrd rusher and OU wouldnt all week.

The only details I remember is that AD had 1000 when the game was over and the OSU back didn't.

Can someone help me with the stats on this one? I would love to know the actual rushing yards for each back leading up to the game and for the game itself. Also, final score and year of the game.

This is one of my favorite 'side stories' of an OU victory over OSU.
Thanks in advance.

It was in 2005. I can't find the stats though.

From this link (http://www.soonersports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/112705aaa.html):

Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson has been named the national offensive player of the week by the Walter Camp Foundation. The sophomore received the honor for his performance in OU's 42-14 trouncing of Oklahoma State, Saturday. Peterson carried 24 times for 237 yards and two touchdowns in the Sooner victory.

It marked the third time in two seasons that Peterson won the honor. On Monday, Peterson also was named the Big 12 Conference's Offensive Player of the Week.

The Palestine, Texas, native scored against the Cowboys on runs of 84, the longest of his career, and 71 yards. He picked up 210 yards in the second half, the highest single half total in school history. Former Heisman Trophy winner Billy Sims held the old mark with 206 yards against Missouri in the second half of the 1979 game.

It has been a remarkable comeback for Peterson from early season ankle problems. After missing all or more than half of four games, he has recorded four straight 100-yard and two-touchdown performances. Saturday, despite all the time missed, he still managed to lift his season rushing total over 1,000 yards to 1,024.

He now ranks No. 11 in career rushing yards at OU with 2,949. He needs just 51 more to eclipse 3,000 yards.

So, he must have had 787 yards before the 42-14 win. Date of the game was Nov. 26, 2005. It was the 100th meeting of the two schools.

The OSU player was Mike Hamilton. "Mike Hamilton, who needed 59 yards to become the first Oklahoma State freshman to run for 1,000 yards, finished well short with 20 yards on 11 carries. He still holds Oklahoma State's freshman rushing record." Source: http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=253300201

The ESPN link has a nice recap of the game. Favorite part: "Oklahoma State had only one first down and zero yards of total offense on its first seven possessions..."

OSU fans genuinely believed that Mike Hamilton was better than Adrian Peterson.

They also genuinely believed that farm animals should make the spread in Playboy.
