Senior OL Brian Lepak

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma offensive lineman Brian Lepak has been named to the 49-member ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Football Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The team is comprised of players on both the Football Bowl Subdivision and Football Championship Subdivision levels.

"We're really proud for Brian," OU Head Coach Bob Stoops said. "When you consider how many players there are nationally, and that only 49 make the team, it's quite an accomplishment. He has been a solid contributor to our program and has maintained a good balance between football and the other aspects of college life."

Lepak, who carries a 3.86 grade point average in Finance, has played in 10 games this season at both guard and center. He drew starting assignments against Air Force and Cincinnati.

Off the field, he has received the John F.Y. Stambaugh Outstanding Accounting Senior Award and served as vice chairman of the OU College Republicans.


His family has strong ties to OU. Lepak's mother, Linda, taught business on the Norman campus in the 1980's while an uncle, Sam Stoia, lettered in football for the Sooners, and an aunt, Elizabeth Stoia, played softball at the school.

Lepak is the third Oklahoma player to make the team over the last three seasons. In 2008, quarterback Sam Bradford and running back DeMarco Murray were second team selections.

Lepak was one of five Big 12 Conference players named to the team and the only player from an FBS team in Oklahoma to make the squad.
