View Full Version : Is it Hook and Ladder or Hook and Lateral?

I've always thought it was Hook and Lateral because the receiver runs a hook pattern followed by a lateral.
I've heard people say Hook and Ladder, but that doesn't make sense.

I've always said Hook and Ladder, but Hook and Lateral sounds more accurate in describing the play.

Hook and lateral is the accurate way to phrase it, since it describes exactly what happens (a hook route and then a lateral), but everyone says hook and ladder. Considering that to sports announcers some good efforting can really get a play defensed well, I'm not at all surprised by this.

Off topic, but it drives me crazy when sports people say "untracked" when they really mean "on track."

"They never could get their running game untracked."

Untracked sounds like a derailment, which would be a bad thing.
