Also, with a good game could Jamell Fleming propel himself to an All American season? Fleming is tied for 1st in the league with 4 INTs and 2nd in the Nation with 15 pass breakups. Blackmon previously torched preseason AA corners for Neb and tex.

In a related note, I think Martinez is due some major credit here.

Our guys no longer just cover receivers, they defend passes. So refreshing.

Fleming has had his down games the first game especially since then he's been pretty stellar most of the time he got burned was because of broken coverages which were the safeties faults (like that long pass to Swope against A&M). Aaron Colvin has played pretty well too when he had chances to see the field. Stats really don't lie but don't tell the whole truth. Fleming has played pretty well though in most of the games.

He does get matched up w/ 1s. Hurst is does a good job too. I like his ability to tackle in space. Jefferson does that pretty good as well. Our secondary is scary at times.

NU also shut down Garrett Gilbert... oops. If its one person we're usually good at containing that receiver. Its the other ones we have to worry about. I'm more concerned about Cooper. For the record you won't be able to shut down Broyles.

the group i work with is projecting fleming in the 4th round right now for the 2012 draft...that doesn't mean anything though..

and nothing on hurst

In the first half he did, not so much the 2nd. I mean but really think about it its the Big 12. Most teams run the spread or air raids, etc. Besides us, there are only a few teams that actually line up in pro sets. You can be the best DB in the world and have a few down plays as much as most teams in this conference throw the ball around.

to add to my thoughts on hurst..


only 4 corners were taken in the draft last year under 5'10...Arenas who was drafted in the 2nd and the other 3 were 7th rounders...and all of those guys play at or around 200 lbs....arenas being drafted that early had to do a lot with his ST ability as well...

I think while hurst can be molded into an excellent college corner, Im not too high on his NFL prospects
