Poor guy has to have another micro-fracture surgery, this time on his other knee. By all accounts he is a good dude who works hard, still only 22. Hopefully at some point he can make a career for himself

having undergone the same surgeries, I definitely feel bad for the dude...thing is, its not going to get better...no telling how many knee replacements he is going to have to get in his life

its just hard to fathom that he is ONLY 22. You think that he can have a good career ala Stoudamire or Kenyon Martin, other guys who have had the surgery...just doesnt look good though

One thing he will have is that he will always be big..but I couldn't see him play more than 20 games in a season...

I would never claim to be an expert but I said flat out that Portland would regret taking Oden over Durant, and this was without knowing that he would be hurt the entire time...horrible pick

Oden is a walking reason why the one and done is a bad rule.

He's a 22 year old millionaire. No, I don't feel bad for him.

well, that's one way to look at it...but he's being denied a chance to do something he loves that's out of his control...all at age 22. i feel sorry for the guy.

see you all are taking this to a level that is unnecessary. No one is saying they feel bad for him raking in the cash while he sits on the bench, I just cant imagine wanting to get out there and prove yourself and help the team but your body wont let you

Not to inject politics into this, but I've never understood this sentiment.

Just like in another thread where a poster said they were pissed that the tax cuts for the wealthy are being extended.

It's why I hate class warfare.

if and when Sam Bradford gets to a Super Bowl and possibly loses, are any of you going to say, "I don't sorry for him. He signed a ridiculous rookie contract and he'll be fine."

I seriously doubt you said that, and if you did I would be curious what your rationale was then.

31 out of 31 NBA GM's would have taken Oden and anyone that says otherwise is a liar.

Aside from Jeff Ma, a treasured consultant, and his pro-Durant opinion, there was also something else, important, to be gleaned from that article...

ANYBODY who favored stats; especially advanced stats, favored Durant. (Except me. I'm still not sure he's that good. Sup, GDC?) In addition, Durant lived and breathed basketball. Oden did, and now, does, not. There's no stat that can "fix" that.

In this comparison, he (psuedo-seriously) picks Oden. But, if you look at the categories, all of the basketball-related ones (well, the majority) are dominated by Durant.

Even back in 2007, people were torn SOLELY for the reason that you still hear "you don't pass up on a franchise-caliber center." It's why guys like Kandi Man, and Darko, and Thabeet keep getting taken in the lottery.

Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb...

I don't feel sorry for him for any reason other than for what I truly feel he could have been. His per-minute numbers were sick. But, between rookie foul trouble, and injuries, those per-minute numbers are just about all we('ll ever?) have to go on. I don't think he ever "loved" basketball, but I DO think that he wants to be able now, very badly, to at least go out and prove that he's able to PLAY it, and to do so well, before he has to hang 'em up. Like Bill Walton, only with the Celtics, and nothing before that.

I hope that he gets the chance to do just that.

If not, there's always porn.

I said to pick Durant, also. I felt it was pretty clear that Durant was the better player in college, and that the only reason people were favoring Oden was because players like him were harder to find. Scorers come by every year, blah, blah, blah. I've always felt that picking a player due to rareness, or even need, is a big mistake in the NBA draft.

Thanks for telling me what I probably thought and said but I know what I thought and said, I never thought Oden would be a 20 ppg scorer and I didnt think rebounding and blocked shots were worth the #1 pick
