View Full Version : Mack Brown: Longhorns 'should be 7-3'

TheMind__Gap

Texas coach Mack Brown has had plenty of frustrating moments throughout his worst season as the Longhorns' coach. A sixth loss -- 33-16 to Oklahoma State at home -- did little to lessen the frustrations.

But 2010 will not be the start of a program decline, Brown says.

"This is a one-year deal. We’ve had the perfect storm of all bad things that could possibly happen, and we haven’t done as good of a job as we could have as coaches," Brown said. "In my estimation, we should have won three, maybe four extra games. We should be 7-3 probably sitting here now, and that’s the disappointing thing for me, for the players and the fans, that we could have done a better job."

Injuries to key players at receiver, running back, offensive line and defensive back have forced Texas to play young talent on an already young team. Losses to Oklahoma, Iowa State and Baylor came by one possession. Texas also turned the ball over four times in the first half in a loss to UCLA.

The Longhorns have lost four consecutive games at home for the first time since 1956, only the latest in a handful of records set for futility from Texas.

That streak could come to an end on Saturday when the Longhorns host Florida Atlantic before a season finale in Austin against Texas A&M. A win on Saturday would move Texas' home record to 2-4 and still keep them within an upset over the rival Aggies of a bowl berth.

"You’d love to get this one on Saturday and then at least give yourself a chance on Thanksgiving to get to a bowl and get 13 extra practices to practice your young guys and take some momentum into next year," Brown said.

And it's bull**** that they have had everything conceivable go wrong. Injuries have been average for the most part, with no injuries to major stars like we had last year (and for which we played 100% better than they did).

In fact, I can't really think of what has gone wrong other than sucking? Are they really expecting the stars to line up perfectly for them every year?

You’d love to get this one on Saturday...

You're playing FAU. Despite your problems, you have the better, more talented team. Just line up and beat 'em.

I have defended Mack for the most part. I think he's a quality coach, but boy he can say some stupid things at times.

If Nebraska just caught the d@mn ball, whorn wouldn't be 7-3, they'd be 3-7.

But, if COLT would've played, he'd be Texas' aid, not just a band-aid, not drinking their kool-aid, but whorn would be OK'd for the polls, not fade into obscurity wade

Even if they do, they will go to a Summer's Eve-like Bowl. And they will be the headliners in the debate about too many bowl games and non-winning teams should not get bowl bids.

world is full of would'ves, should'ves and could'ves Mack.

Saw a whorn fan talking about Mack on another non Saxet board. Said most whorn fans dont understand that a coach like Mack, with his 10 year 10 win streak, bowl record, won/loss record against ranked teams, championships and such could have a down year after 12 years as a head coach. I asked this person if they knew Mack was a head coach at 2 universities before Saxet and this fan replied, no Mack only became a head coach when he came to Saxet. I then told him Mack has been a HC for over 25, close to 30 years.

A couple of replies later he was in disbelief that Mack had coached before Saxet. And that some of the things he was spouting off about how great Mack is didnt look as good as just his time in Austin.

They should be the 6 win team left out... Rice 2-8 right now, Wyoming 2-9, Tech may not even get bowl eligible(their Weber St. Game won't count). They normally don't take you either unless you are at least even in conference. They could end up 3-5 at best. I doubt * gets in but its * and the bowl committee will want to generate $$$.

What would be scary for me if I were a horns fan (I'm not) would be that they were really blow out in their last two games. Scored 13 or 14 points in the last quarter of both games to make the score halfway close. But never were in either game once the whistle blew.

Think long-term. Texas blows out both FAU and ATM, running up 400 yards of offense in each. Mack credits Greg Davis with a wonderful game plan and predicts great things for next year's offense.

Hornfans.com would shut down at that point. Shaggy would need to hire a team of therapists.

In retrospect I am no longer impressed with Texas fighting back and making the score close in the Bama game or against us. Gilbert Grape and the Horns have a pattern of trash time cosmetic scoring. The reason was simply Bama and others relaxing and taking the foot off the gas. Had Colt kept playing Bama would have merely kept the intensity level up and the result would have been the same. Horns would still have lost. :D :mack:

Score in 4th quarter: OU 28-10, final 28-20. Kansas Lite 39-0, final 39-14. Oklahoma Lite 33-3, final 33-16. Iowa Lite 21-6, final 28-21.
