in which a team (texass) that played for the national championship the previous year, was not even bowl eligible the following year?

Mind you, couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of a-holes, but has it happened?

I'll hang up and listen.

I dunno but the fact it IS happening to the Orange Cows is funny.

Heard on espn, only six times in history has a team that finished 1 or 2 in the last poll had a losing record the next season. I don't know the teams they've said, but it's been a while since it's happened.

I would imagine it happpened when there were only about 1/2 the amount of bowl games.

It is also possible that TU will not go to a bowl even with 6 wins. The team, coach, AD or Regents could decide they don't deserve one. I can think of one that fits them - the Toilet Bowl.

At this point, the orange faithful don't want to go to a bowl. They have a pretty good idea that it would be another beatdown by an inferior (i.e. anyone not sa*et) team.

If that were to happen, the conference should have a provision that ensures that Texas owes the rest of the teams in the conference the money everyone would have gotten had they gone to a bowl game.

It's one thing to not be eligible. It's one thing to not get invited. It's entirely something else if you CHOOSE not to go to a bowl game.

Baylor will take their place.

I think I heard on TV that the last time it happened was Arizona State 34 years ago.

Irregardless of what the correct answer is (although I think sooner59 is right) enjoy it while it lasts.

If you want to be technical, yes. Every year for one period of time where teams could not go to bowl games in consecutive years. Then again, the MNC was awarded before bowl games back in that time period.

They would be dumb not to accept. An extra few weeks of practice and bowl experience for the young team.

Let's just give them their trophy early this year:

The Big XII might fine them for that. Not sure.
