Is the opponent ranking from when the game is played or from week to week?

Different computers in the BCS formula do it different ways. Some count current ranking and others count ranking when played.

Ranking when played seems kinda dumb.

huh? its updated every week. So it counts the current ranking. That's why we dropped in the computer after we beat Colorado, because almost all our opponents lost that week.

I refuse to post the links I already posted several times about the computers.

As I understood from something I read today, there is a 'ranking component' which is figured differently along with a 'strength of schedule component'. If this is true, beating a number 5 ranked team early would help your overall place if the opponent rank was from the week of the game. But the strength of schedule component changing from week to week is as mentioned what brings a team up or down.

It is just I was aware of the SOS not ranking.

No need for that at all. I was under the impression it was a simple answer.

yeah that is not true. The only ranking to your opponent that matters is the one that they have at the end of the season.
