Saw this in the Oklahoman. Is he there to "advise" Patton on the o-line?

I'd love to see them bring Mangino back has co-offensive coordinator. Even if we could hire him as a consultant it might spark some fire back into this team.

Yeah the whale rider who beat anorexia would scare the living hell out of the players. I'm all for yelling at them until they get it right. If they can't handle it, go play a sissy sport or world of warcraft. This is the big time and people need to stop coddling athletes about their feelings.

Just my two cents.

I for one, would love to see Mangino back at OU. He took a line of not highly ranked players and made national champions out of them. I used to watch his practices when they were at the intramural fields and he would tear into them for every mistake. But unlike the Jayhackers our kids took it for what is was.... constructive critisism. Super nice man in person and a great family guy.

Two things that all fans on all message boards assume when a team loses a game.

1. The coordinators suck.
2. The players aren't trying hard.

We've been through the first item ad nauseum. But when did this crap start that the team doesn't care enough about winning? The team that played ATM looked like it was fighting to the very end.

It was. The frustrating part is in week nine you're still seeing the same mistakes you saw in week one. Old habits and all, I guess...and maybe you can't coach it out of some people.

Watched the first half again last night. Great thing about the TiVo is the ability to watch in slow motion. We were so close to just taking that game over. Overthrow Stills by one foot...overthrow Ratteree on a post...miss Stills at the goal line and try to drop a perfect pass into Ratteree in double coverage...our tackles could not handle Von Miller...a missed block here...there...Landry could run for first downs at least twice...a missed roughing the passer call...missed tackles...Alexander takes one step the wrong way and Gray adjusts beautifully and a stop for no gain turns into a 12-yard gain...the first goal line stand...on fourth down the left side of the line gets a great push and Murray goes to the right, which is getting pushed back...play prior to that, Jones hands to Millard who gets close...if he pulls it out and pitches back to Murray, he could walk in for six. And that's just the first half!

Even allowing for the quirky (missing the snap for the safety) and the occasional breakdown, we could easily have led at the half 14-9 or 14-12.

We didnt have the best offense, but we found ways to move the ball when we had to, and had a variety of misdirection in our running, something we havn't had in long time. If we have Wilson in 2001 we go 8-5 and blame it on losing many players to the draft. Book it.

Let's see... we scored 14 against Texas, 10 against Nebraska, 13 against Oklahoma State, and 10 against Arkansas.

Oh, one thing in common with all those games: They were on the road. (EDIT: We lost to OSU on our own field. My bad.)

What is our lowest scoring game this season? 19.

If Mangino was our OC this year everyone would be after his job. Book it.

I would like to see co-offensive coordinators AND co-defensive coordinators.

Hire Mangino back as one of the offensive guys and let him b-slap and fire up his players, especially the o-line guys, until they become men. Hire Norm Chow or another top notch call calling specialist to be the other co-offensive co-ordinator. We have top talent. A top tier play caller (qicker thinker and able to make adjustments in real time) should be able to to run our offensive like a finely tuned machine (with the kinda talent we have).

We need a Mike Stoops type to pull the defense up to another level. With the talent we have (and recruit) no reason for us not to show an in your face, smothering, suffocating defense like we had when Mike Stoops was here. Mark Stoops seems to have a lot of fire like Mike. I don`t follow him enough to know if he is ready for the task at OU. I think OU`s D talent right now is an upgrade from Florida State. I think he runs the full D at FSU. It`s not clear if he would come here to be co-d coordinator with BV, but you never know, he could do it to work with brother Bob. He might get a head coaching job quicker via OU (and Bob) than if he sticks around at FSU. Jimbo just got the head job and is probably not going anywhere for a while.

Something is up, our gameplan was like night and day. Direct snaps to Murray with Landry faking out the D, almost no bubble screens/shovel passes to be heard to of. Mangino no doubt had something to do with this. You don't just show up to an OU game/practice and dick around with Bob while talking about the good ol' days.

Folks, I think I've got it figured out. Stoops is going create two new Offensive Coordinator positions to replace the current one position. The "Home Game Offensive Coordinator" position will continue to be filled by the OC incumbent Kevin Wilson. The new "Away-From-Home Road Offensive Coordinator" will be filled by Mangino.

What do you think? Not.

Former Kansas coach and former OU assistant Mark Mangino attended Saturday’s game. Mangino said he’s visited a few former friends around the country since being fired last season. Asked about his future plans, Mangino declined comment but said: “We’re working on a few things.”

Defense wise, it seemed that the D played harder after the injury to Adrian Taylor. It also looked like Venables, mixed stuff up much more than usual. It also appeared that Beal decided to bring his game from about two years ago. Also, I never saw Wort take the field in the 1st half, is that right? I saw him on the bench though. Box played well IMHO and will only get better.

We've been through these "campus sightings" before. In the end they usually don't amount to much. For example, Dick Tomey also spent time with the UT coaching crew and everyone was wondering if he was consulting with the team. Apparently not.

any proof that he was consulting? perhaps he was an invited sideline guest for the game, and he hung around all week because it's not like schools are beating down his door to hire him as the head coach.
