jeter is over the hill.
don't know who should get it, would rather have andruus, but he made a lot of errors. he made errors on balls that jeter couldn't come close to. (darn, a preposition)

talk is, hamilton for mvp. don't see it, led the league in hitting & slugging, but not close in homers(not that important) & rbi.(very important) we'll see.

It's been said that Gold Gloves are like Supreme Court appointments. Hard to get, but once you get them, you're in for life.

That's the only explanation I can give for Jeter getting one.

Elvis Andrus, Alexei Gonzalez, and Jack Wilson are all better than him defensively.

you're probly right, but he was behind in rbi & hr before going on dl.

how much did he help the team while on the dl??

he was more than 20 behind in homers after season was over. someone got over 50.

wasn't close in rbi either, only had about 97 when he went on dl. guerreo
<SP> was ahead of him @ that time.

He was having a HUGE year before he got hurt and had already helped propel the Rangers into 1st place, and he played Gold Glove type D, he def deserves it.

The guy with 50 homers played for a 3rd place team and he woulda been right up there in RBIs if he hadnt gotten hurt.

check the numbers, he wasn't having a HUGE year, except in average & slugging, which were huge.

where team finishes doesn't always matter, arod won trophy with rangers & they finished LAST.

how many games can be missed & still win mvp ?? 20, 30, 50 ???

he didn't win gold glove.

he did help rangers when they needed it the most. they got up to about 18 games over 500 in june (going by memory) & that's where they finished.
90-72
so for july, aug & sept, only played 500 ball, playing in weakest division (JMHO)
in baseball.

had worst record of any play-off team.

He finished 1st in Batting Avg, OBP, OPS, Top 10 in HRs, and had 97 RBIs with a month left in the season when he got hurt

I wouldn't mind if Cano won it, though.

Still kinda pisses me off that the Rangers could have had him in the A-Rod deal. But who knew Joaquin Arias would be such a spare? :D

AL version's going to be interesting. If they give it to the guy who pitched the best, IMO that's Felix, but those 13 wins are going to be an eyesore to some voters, I'm betting.

Collier11

Yea its gonna be tough for him to overcome perception even though he was the best pitcher all year

AL- Ron Gardenhire

NL- Bud Black

Someone surprised on both, I was unaware that blowing a huge division lead gets you an award like the Padres and I really figured Ron Washington would get it in the AL

twins had better record than rangers. went all season without their closer & about 1/2 season without morneau.

on top of that, what really makes him a winner: Gardenhire is a 1975 graduate of okmulgee high school !!!!!!!!

Yep...pretty much led the AL in every major pitching category.

nice to see a guy not get penalized for being on a bad. He pretty much did all he could do this side of a '78 Guidry-ish season.

Sabermetrics are coming into play with voting finally.

texaspokieokie
11/18/2010, 04:26 PM
don't think it took "sabremetrics" to determine that he was the best, this year.

did have to study a little tho.

Collier11

Yea, he dominated every single category outside of wins while pitching with the worst run scoring team in the DH era

But it certainly helped when terms like WAR, and K/9 were tossed into the discussion.

Manager of the Year

AL- Ron Gardenhire

NL- Bud Black

Someone surprised on both, I was unaware that blowing a huge division lead gets you an award like the Padres and I really figured Ron Washington would get it in the AL

Except as has been mentioned, Gardy did it without Joe Nathan for the entire year and Justin Morneau for half the season.

And since the voting is based entirely on regular season, it's worth noting that Wash had one key stat working against him.

0-12 road record versus the other three playoff teams, including 0-6 against the Twins.

And Gardenhire was due after finishing 2nd for so many years.
