IRVING, Texas -- The Big 12 Conference has extended the contract of commissioner Dan Beebe for three years through June 2015.

Beebe's original five-year deal was set to expire in 2012.

The extension Friday comes following a summer when the future of the league was in question after Nebraska and Colorado decided to leave. Beebe was credited with being a steady figure that helped keep the team's other 10 schools together.

University of Missouri chancellor Brady Deaton, chairman of the league's board of directors, says Beebe has been "an outstanding leader" during challenging times.

on one hand, you have to give someone credit that there will be a Big 12 next year... on the other, way to let us get raped by the Big10 and Pac10

Ah, America...where CEOs and commissioners get raises and golden parachutes for failing miserably. Beebe is a spineless, gutless wiener who would lick boot heels if it earned him a few extra bucks.

Yea, I was wondering how this was a good thing.

Beebz didn't do much... the thought of us abandoning Poke never crossed our minds, the thoughts of Poke abandoning Texas never crossed their minds, the thoughts of Tech allowing either A&M or UT to leave them behind was laughable. In a nutshell, our legislatures and leaders decreed without Beebe that we are stuck together until our little sister schools are good enough to strike out on their own, or until the conference implodes on its own.

good to see that Texas chose to reward him for his loyalty.
