Since we won't have a title game for the years to come, it seems like one game essentially puts you completely out of the title race because there won't be a CCG to "redeem" yourself.

So unless other conference champions (PAC 10 (12) and Big Ten (12)) have more than 1 loss, we're pretty much looking at an undefeated regular season to get in the MNC game. And that's not including the Boy-Zs of the world.

tOSU did, so we will be fine for the most part, but is that a fair assessment?

With the Teams that are left in Our Conference we should be a lock to win out every year from now on.

There will be a Big XII championship game. They call it the Red River Rivalry/Shootout.

It's going to suck not having a CCG. Hopefully things will change in the next couple of years.

I expect this is one of those things that will help in some years and hurt in others.

2008?

Edit. nope. My memory sucks. Could have screwed us out of it though.

we were already number 2 before the big 12 championship. but it certainly didn't hurt

before conference championship weekend

1) Alabama
2) Oklahoma
3) Texas
4) Florida

after

1) Oklahoma
2) Florida
3) Texas
4) Alabama

I seem to recall a lot of gnashing of teeth over OU having to play some of the previous CCG's, both on this board and by OUr head coach.

Now that there won't be one, suddenly everyone is going on record as saying they wish we had one?

My drunken memory fails me at times. For some reason I thought we were #3 going into KC. I edited my post.

imagine if we didn't have a conference championship game this year. Missouri would have tie breaker on us. Not sure about Nebraska. but still i don't like not having one

no worries, that was a drunky season. because after we killed Tech, we still were slightly behind texas. Next we played a ranked Poke St team on the road, and took the fraction and jumped the horns! :D That next Sunday they announced the rankings on Fox, and it showedThe King smiling before the show started :D

that's when hornfans went into a classic meltdown

That was the old classic meltdown. The new classic was when Baylor and ISU beat em at home. This meltdown is... To Be Continued.

2003 it hurt us, but we got there anyway

1996 it hurt Nebraska, 1998 it hosed K-State, 2001 it knocked Texas out

in 2004 it might have helped, Auburn was close and them having one, and us not having one might have been a problem

in the ACC, they've all been pretty much out of it by then except VT in 2007, where it didn't matter. OU, VT and LSU all won a CCG with 2 losses, but LSU was voted #2 and played 1 tOSU, jumping VT, Kansas and Georgia in the coaches poll in the process, who all had similar, if not better records. this means they trade places with VT in the BCS for the final ranking. so it seems more like SEC collusion than just a CCG game

that being said, i love the CCG :D

i'm not thrilled about it being in Arlington though... seems like it belongs in KC

I totally agree. Playing almost all my life, one thing that I could always count on was the fresh air, and the smell of fresh cut grass.

With that said, I had better go to the Big XII title game this year if OU makes it, because there might not be another one, ever.

I think the dilemma some of us fans feel is the Big XII not having one now that media-darlings Big 10 and Pac12 are nutting-up and staging one.

Wasn't there some talk of shifting regular season games into the first week of Dec? Just to keep in in the mix, so to speak? Why didn't that happen?

We need to schedule name OOC opponents in 2012 and 2013. ND may be good by then, but even if they are, with the Big XII likely having a diminished reputation, we could use two good OOC games. And it's not unlikley ND will suck, and we'd have a tcu-esque schedule.

Everything being equal, I'd actually prefer to swap tough conference games for tough OOC games. For one thing, OOC losses generally come early, which is better. For another, a loss doesn't hurt your chances of winning the conference. Finally, unless it's a conference rival, I prefer the novelty of a good OOC matchup to a game against whatever conference opponent happens to be good this year.

Well, half of the seasons in th 00's it seemed the winner of the Big 12 CCG was in the BCS Title game.

2000 (OU), 2004 (OU), 2005 (Texass), 2008 (OU), 2009 (Texass).

Not to mention that Nebraska and OU made it to the BCS title after losing the CCG.

So essentially the best team in the Big 12 has appeared in 7 of the 10 BCS titles from 2000-2009.

Not bad at all.

but all of those years it wasn't the CCG that put them there, they would have been #1 or #2 anyway

and in 2001, the best team in the conference was left out :D

The two "independent" teams will wise up and join... hopefully. South Carolina and Penn State gave up their independence to join the SEC and Big Ten respectively and it's worked out OK for them.

CCGs exist for money, not because they make for a more logical championship format. It's really stupid when you're playing a team with a worse record and that you already beat.

humblesooner

What seems stupid about the B12 CCG locations is:
Play in the North and play outdoors in snow and cold as heck weather.
Play in the south and move in to an air-conditioned/heated, domed/roofed stadium.

I think extreme weather conditions should not come in to play during the most important game of the year. So the way we were doing it just seemed bass ackwards.

Why do you think they play the major bowl games in warm weather climates?
