After the CU TD, everyone in the north end zone started yelling/booing something. what was it?

They threw the football out of the stadium. Then, OUPD went up and took the guy who actually tossed it over the top out of the stadium.

Ball went up.

Ball went out.

And so did the do'er.

I read something on twitter about someone getting tossed for taking the CU extra point ball. Or maybe they threw it over the wall?

That's weak. It's just a ball.

Really, it's not like they stormed the field and tried to take down the goal posts.

im not saying kick the guy out, im just questioning the fans. Its like kicking Colorado while theyre already down. although I guess by this time in the game, the fans were getting kinda bored.

I think it is a bit ridiculous to throw the ball over the wall. I guess they will start using the nets all the time since the fans can't "help themselves"

My fathers season tickets are in that end zone and I remember when Sooner fans used to throw the ball back onto the field and nets weren't needed.

We used to do that all the time back in the early aughts for any team during warmups - your kicker kicks it in our stands, the ball gets ousted. It was a lot easier for a ball to get chucked out of the student section without the upper deck on that side, though :O

they should make the guy go fetch the ball & bring it back.

The Colorado ball-boy was yelling and crying about it to the fans. That was kind of hilarious.

But seriously, keep the football in the stands. One of these days that thrown football is gonna land on some little old lady's head and kill her.

great all we need is another tradition vs. whats right thread.

Its an effing football and I think its great that this tradition has come back.

I want every visiting kicker that comes into Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium to be thinking about the fans stealing his balls instead of making it through the goal posts.

If you dont like gamesmanship then GTFO.

That is ridiculous. It's not as if they actually lose the ball as it is still inside the stadium, they just have to go a little further to retrieve it. Now if the guy chucked it over the fence into the reflecting pool, that is a little excessive.

No, it isn't still inside the stadium. They throw it OUT of the stadium, and it may very well land in the reflecting pool.

I guess it is as "traditional" as the horse pigs...which means that it isn't a "tradition" at all. Going to games since 1971 I don't "remember" the ball being tossed out of the stadium regularly until recent years. It's definitely not anything that has "come back" since it rarely happened in the past. Just pretty much an immature act by immature individuals.

The kickers don't care at all, I doubt they ever think about what happens to the ball after the kick, if they do they probably aren't very good kickers anyway. Kickers aren't the ones tasked with getting the ball back so "gamesmanship" is an invalid argument.

It was the first fans fault for holding onto the ball for like two minutes before deciding to throw it up further. If he had just thrown it right away, there wouldnt have been that much attention paid to it. But it took the entire north end zone and student section yelling at him to throw it up, which probably caught the OUPDs attention. Ive seen it happen quite a few times, and never seen the cops go after anyone. I stopped and talked to some cops afterwards, and they said they just kicked him out.

I've seen the OU Staff come into the stands to get the ball....and about the time the OU staff isn't getting the ball back...the cops have come right after...

I haven't seen anyone get away with a game ball in years....decades...

Its not the OU ball that they're throwing over, Colorado has their own balls, and no OU staff was going after the ball, the CU ball guy was sitting by the wall yelling for the ball. Ive seen the OUPD go get the ball, when someone tries to actually keep it,but Ive never seen them take anyone down out of the stands. Pay attention at the next osu game in Norman, almost EVERY single ball goes out of the stadium, even during warm ups.

So my rule is, if it is Texas or Okie State, get that ball out fast.

My seats are on the aisle between Secs 18 and 19. At one point, a guy dressed like a black faced Billy Simms caught the ball and held it.

When the OU rent a cops escorted the guy out, he had a big grin on his face and people were high fiving him.

I agree with JKII, the ball would have gone out much quicker had someone not held it for so long.

Ok, new idea. Pass it all the way to the top and then place it on the top step of the aisle. Then if you get in trouble for not throwing it you can say that your arm hurts.

I seem to remember watching OSU warming up before the game about 15 years ago, and every single ball ended up going up and out of the north end zone. They literally didn't have any balls left to practice with. Good times....

It is not a "tradition," but it ain't new, and it's also not a big deal. If you catch the ball, you immediately chuck it backwards without even looking. Next guy does the same thing, etc. until it's gone. When properly done, they ain't gonna have a clue who chucked it out of the place.

I think the only reason they caught him was cause he was wearing a white hoodie and was standing up making a scene about it. You have to do it quick and be wearing the same color as everyone else around you.
