Nothing about his election was policy related. It was entirely white guilt.

Wrong.

Obama was elected for 3 reasons. Race would probably come in 4th.

1)The previous decade of Republican ineptitude combined with the utter failure of the Bush administration made it virtually impossible for any Republican to win that Presidential election.

2)McCain was a **** poor candidate and was/is a **** poor Senator. His Presidential candidate rivaled Bob Dole's in its comically, and at times astoundingly, bad decisions. He was a horrible candidate who had a horrible campaign staff that made horrible strategic and tactical campaign decisions. It was absolute fail at every level of his campaign.

3)Obama ran an inspirational campaign (to many) and knew how to give an inspirational speech and Americans are captivated by leaders who are captivating, inspirational, and promise to be a transformative leader.

After all of that, race comes into play when you talk about motivating minorities to a degree that compounded the already positive momentum of his campaign.

Saying that he was elected purely because he is black is one of the most ignorant-*** things I have to hear from people who don't know what the hell they're talking about. For one thing, it greatly underestimates him and his supporters which is a dangerous thing to do. I'll say this, those of you who look at his administration right now and think he'll be easy to knock off in '12 are deluding themselves into believing that a President can't recover with 2 years before the next election and that Republicans have anyone who can go toe-to-toe with him....which they currently don't.

Race played a part, although minor.

As pointed out, the pubs had set the stage for almost anyone OTHER than a pub to win.
Obama was (is) a magnificient orator who mesmerized crowds across the country.
Obama promised such things as transparency in government, seeking out bi-partisan participation in Congress, and a few other things, not ONE of which he carried through on.
Being from Illinois, Obama was guided by the Abe Lincoln quote:

"You can fool all of the people some of the time and that is usually enough."

Hey, Nate? We've already got two of you. One is dogmatic in his reiteration, linking and quoting of taking points that he finds on every right wing blog/conspiracy theory site, etc and is named RLiMC. The other one puts anyone he disagrees with or who destroys his lame partisan arguments on ignore so he doesn't have to face up to the reality that the reality he lives is is, in fact, not reality and is named Oklahoma Tuba.

Both of these posters are better at their shtick then you are.

So could you do us all a favor? Could you at least find either a unique or humorous perspective/style that would make your idiotic posts amusing for those of us with a brain or could you just go away forever and never come back?

There were probably a few voters who factored in race. But there was a certain inevitability to switching the party occupying the white house due to (whether right or wrong):

1. The perceived trillion dollar cluster f*ck in Iraq.

2. The Wall Street housing market meltdown.

3. The demise of the Republican big tent. Some would rather get soaked than share a tent with those who fail litmus tests.

Leroy, I've heard you mention before the "white guilt" motivation for hiring John Blake.

The extent to which race factored into that disaster of a hire was not due to "white guilt" but rather the fact that OSU's Bob Simmons initially looked like stroke of genius because Simmons won some key recruiting battles.... speculating that having a black head coach gave them an edge in recruiting.

And he's a ****ing unethical bastard. Will say anything about his opponent (read: lie) to get elected. He just looked like a moron during the whole tunnel to NYC debacle. The GOP should fall in love with him, as he is about to cut the upper echelon's taxes while the state is still in a free fall. Seeing as how there are very few state taxes on clothing/food etc, this won't benefit the budget.
Wrenching away the governorship from Corzine could have been done pretty much by anyone with a pulse. So, please remove yourself from his dick for that "feat". Oh yeah, there's always the VERY STRONG infidelity innuendo. Who'd **** Jabba the Gov is beyond me.

Poll: Dems split over handing Obama '12 nomination

The AP-KN poll has tracked a group of people and their views since the beginning of the 2008 presidential campaign. Among all 2008 voters, 51 percent say he deserves to be defeated in November 2012 while 47 percent support his re-election _ essentially a tie.

Among Democrats, 47 percent say Obama should be challenged for the 2012 nomination and 51 percent say he should not be opposed.http://www.wtop.com/?nid=213&sid=2099680

There IS a middle ground here, you know? No there is NOT any middle ground. The second government starts regulating profit margins either through the tax code or by statute, its over. Period.

And right now the class that is whining and moaning about "class warfare" is paying some of the lowest taxes they've ever paid in the HISTORY of the U.S. and that is even IF the Bush Tax Cuts expire (which they should).
All I know dude is almost half of everything my wife and I earn is paid in federal and state taxes. And that blows. And I won't knowingly vote for anyone who doesn't want to roll those taxes back. We must start meaningful cutbacks and cannot keep borrowing money to pay for bread and circuses to ameliorate the masses. I also think it is a tragedy that we are at almost 50% of our population who don't pay a dime in income taxes. That no-income-tax-paying class are the folks who are electing these big-rock-candy-mountain promising politicians because they feel they've nothing to lose and everything to gain. On this foreclosure thing, do not presume to preach to me. It works like this. You find a house you like. You convince a bank to give you a mortgage loan to pay for it. You sign a note that contains a security agreement that if you default on the note, the mortagee gets the house. You start monkeying around with that and what do you think is going to happen to the availability of money to buy homes?

if it was all that simple, there wouldn't be a problem.

once they start selling those loans a few times and they don't care if it's a valid risk or not and the government is picking up the check when it's not, there is a problem. giving someone a house they aren't going to be able to make the payments on in 5 years even with their current job is not a good idea. it might look good on paper for 5 years though...

You start monkeying around with that and what do you think is going to happen to the availability of money to buy homes?

I'll answer this one for chris...

if european banks are our new model of banking (which they are) the banks will stop loaning money to individuals and start trading it back and forth between themselves, exploiting the fractional reserve system, and securing thier own futures (and those of thier respective boards), leaving the individual with no way to purchase a home.

most housing purchased in socialist european countries is done so through government sponsored subsidies.

deregulating the banks was the stupidest thing we ever did. it hasnt worked out well for the people. it only worked out well for the banks.

Yes. Mine.

Perhaps I should have been more clear. I meant BIG Businesses.

There are always going to be plenty of small business owners who care about their integrity and employees enough to take a hit. And for you doing that I say, "Good for you. I wish there were more like you and I wish big businesses were like you, but they aren't. History bears this out."

Then she must be really, really stupid. I'm surprised she even knows how to fill out a ballot, much like your cronies in Florida.
She really IS that stupid and (even worse) intellectually UN-curious. And they aren't my cronies, unless you now think I'm a Jewish retiree senior citizen or something...which I wouldn't put past you.

So what other cool stories do you have? This is the Internet, so don't hold back. Can you tell us about the evening that you took over for Keith Moon at a Who concert, and then got some chicks for the band?

How did the astronaut training work out? Or did your war injury flare up?

I wonder when you'll figure out that your insecure flame baiting doesn't work on me at all?

Case in point: when I was in H.S. I told some people that I had a brother who was a big wig in Hollywood. Then I had dinner with Ridley Scott and told a friend that. Word spread and suddenly there were a few REALLY insecure "popular kids" who called me a liar. They would always walk up and say stuff like, "Hey, man...have any dinners with SPIELBERG this week?!?!" *snicker* *guffaw*

And they'd pat each other on the backs...and me? I'd just shake my head and walk away with a laugh at how insecure they were.

Why?

Because I was telling the truth, so it didn't bug me.

Years later I ran into those same pathetic kids at a reunion and had to laugh at how they tried to crawfish and pretend that we were old friends while they asked me all about my life now.

You're just like that. And it amuses the heck out of me. :)

As for the "made up claims" in your post, though...the irony is that a couple of them are actually close to being truths. :D

I disagree. Regardless of how little you think of Palin, she was the ONLY motivation for the conservative base in that election. You have to remember and realize that the conservative base detests John McCain. If he had picked someone as moderate as himself then the result would NOT have been more moderates flocking to the McCain camp...they still would have voted for Obama. The result would have been far more conservatives staying at home on election day.

LosAngelesSooner

I wonder what you must be like on a date. (And no, I'm not interested.)

(answers cell phone) "Mr. President? Oh yes, how are you? It's so nice that you call to see how I'm doing. If you need any more campaign advice, just give me a holler."

(turns to date) That was the President. Of the United States. The President was calling me to see how I was doing. He's always bugging me like that. Sometimes I just wish I had never saved his life in that fire. But, that's what fire fighters are for. Saving lives. All day. But I'm glad that I gave up that job. Doesn't pay enough. How could I afford my condos and travel to exotic locations on a fireman's salary? Beats me. So I got big into diamonds. This was on a suggestion from Allison Krause. My old buddy. Robert Plant introduce me to her. Did I say "Robert"? I meant "Bob." Old Bob Plant. He used to sing for Led Zeppelin. One day I told, Bob, you're getting too old for this. So he quit. I was very critical of those who get elected to big offices, specifically President. After taking several graduate classes in policy, politics, budgeting, forecasting, etc.....I take back a ton of smack I talked about W. And I refrain from flying off the handle about Obama like some. That is one position I would never want. Nobody is qualified to be the President, because nobody is extensively knowledgeable in all areas of governing the U.S. The only thing you can hope for is someone with common sense, a little bit of foresight, and the ability to hire knowledgeable people in each area to inform them of what is best in that area. Some use it more to their own personal advantage than others. Some making dumber decisions than others. Politics is a dirty business and anybody that advances very far in it nowadays is most likely crooked, backhanded, and has more knowledge about how to win hearts and minds than they do common sense.
