I realize Cam Newton is good, but they need to quit saying this **** so much. I have heard this about players about 6 times in the past 5 or 6 years.

1. Adrian Peterson
2. Reggie Bush
3. Tim Tebow
4. Vince Young
5. Cam Newton (now)
6. Terrell Pryor (by some)

I don't oppose saying how great these guys....and probably other I didn't mention.....are, but how can you have so many "once in a generation" players over a short period of time? I just get tired up how much the media pumps 1 or 2 guys per year like we have never seen anyone as good as that before. I guess my memory is longer than theirs.

So I guess my question is......what defines a "once in a generation" player? Is it nation-wide? Per school? Per position? Just a playmaker? As much as we hear this, it is interesting to know why there are a hand full of these guys all within a few years of each other.

Pryor doesnt belong on that list, Bradford does. Id say once a generation type players for said team, not overall obviously

ESPNs goal is to make college football gay.

It's CBS. Now that the Gay Durs and Bama have lost they have to pimp someone.

It's the media in general, they have to dumb it down for the retarded masses.

lol @ Pryor being on that list

It is used too much but I believe the context is per position. Peterson and Newton could legitimately be considered once in a generation type players. The others, not so much.

The media has said it before though.

Cam Newton reminds me of VY. He is a freaking stud. LSU defense is good and he shredded them.

They're not good against the run.

well it's just an expression, and you can clearly see the hyperbole in that expression. But yeah sure they abuse of it.

I actually loved all the Newton hyperbole yesterday. I knew that every time they said something like that, all the jort-wearing, mullet-sportin' gator fans watching were dying a thousand deaths. They compared him to Tebow multiple times and that had to hurt.

Are you saying he isn't good. LSU has a much better D than we do regardless of their run rank, the MF'ers are athletic.

No, I was just saying LSU isn't that great against the run. Auburn will struggle against Ole Miss. Houston Nutt usually wins games he isn't supposed to and hasn't yet. He's due. If Auburn ends up 1 in the BCS they better look out.

After last night, I thought this was a thread about Blaine Gabbert . . .

Cam Newton is a better player than Vince Young. Vince Young was a Thouroughbred Race Horse in a man's body, albeit a dumb horse.

I don't have a problem with the once in a generation label being applied Cam Newton. For Auburn he is probably substantially more important than that even.

Ever since M**********ng was banned as an adjective on national TV.

I definitlely agree with Collier on Bradford and Pryor switches.

As great as he is. If he would have chose us over Auburn you can bet your a$$ he would not be the starting QB here.

Coming out of UNC I don't think anyone thought Michael Jordan was a once in a Generation type of player...but IMO if you were going to even put a guy in a class like that...it would be him.

Saying someone is a Once in a lifetime player in College....not sure I've ever seen one of those....

I liked the announcer that says "there's talk of Cam being the greatest player ever at Auburn". Until he can score a TD when your Tecmo Bowl opponent has chosen what play you are going to run then he has no argument. Bo Jackson all the way.

I think once in a generation means for that play they just watched.

They have a lot of overused phrases, this being just one of them.
How many "greatest teams" have we seen in the last 10 years?
The other one that get me is when they say "Florida speed".

CBS and they're commentators are terrible. First with the Tebow lovefest and now the Newton lovefest. He's good but nobody credits the coaches.
