Is hereby OUTLAWED! Go for two after every Fu**ing TD. Never attempt another field goal. Go for fourth down or throw a hail Mary. Let Tress Kick Off and Punt. If you don't like it you can SUCK IT!

I have drank 11 Bud Lights and am sipping number 12! :texan:

It's embarrassing that the #1 team in the country (well, we were coming in) doesn't have a better kicker than we have.

Well, despite the beer involved with previous comments.... I agree totally. By the way, I might have just finished my 12 pack. Crazy how this makes sense.

Well isn't our 4th down conversion ratio about as high as our FG conversion ratio?

It really can't be as difficult as they're making it look. It's past the point of embarassing.

Its embarrassing that the program that produced Tony Dirienzo, Uwe Von Schamman, and Garrett Hartley cannot find a freakin' kicker!!!!

Ummm, Hartley is not exactly carrying the OU banner very well so far....

Other than at, you are right. There is no excuse for OU not having a competent kicker. Both of OUr guys are awful kickers. That's just a fact.

You know, I remember a few years ago some statistician did a risk/reward analysis of punting vs. going for it on 4th down, and his conclusion was that in virtually ALL situations, the reward of going for it outweighs the risk. In essence, he said "why does ANYONE even punt the ball?"

And we STILL haven't got a kicker to commit this year!

Here is the PDF of that research http://www.econ.berkeley.edu/users/dromer/papers/PAPER_NFL_JULY05_FORWEB_CORRECTED.pdf

and an ESPN article about it

Very interesting....

Bottom line? If you face fourth-and-1 four times and punt all four times, your opponent will score once more than it otherwise would have. If you go for it all four times, you will score once more than you otherwise would have. (These are simplified probabilities that do not take into account that the one-score-in-three figure assumes most teams voluntarily end drives by punting on short yardage; subtract those punts, and a possession becomes more valuable because a score is more likely to result.)

And we STILL haven't got a kicker to commit this year!

They probably get the impression that we don't have any coaches that will help them get better at kicking. In fact, they will probably mind F them and make them worse.

I dunno...we're 7 of 10, that's 70 percent. Opponents are 11 of 15, which is 73 percent.

We're number eight in the Big 12 in terms of FG efficiency.

Michigan is the worst: 25 %. (!)

We've actually improved over the past two seasons: 61 % in 2008, and 64 % in 2009.

Hartley was 87 percent in 2007.

dude at OSewe hasn't missed this season...15 for 15.

Football isn't one long term game. It is a series of short term outcomes, where each isolated result is of equal weight. Therefore, there are some instances where short term rewards outweigh the long term rewards, even if the long term rewards are greater.

Well, yeah. I mean he's looking at NFL. He breaks it down due to situation when you read more closely. He says the odds are different depending on where you are on the field, how long the 4th down yardage is, and so on.

But he said you should almost always go for it it it's 4th and 4 or less, because the average play goes for 5 yards in the NFL. Going for it in those situations teams would average a 14-point swing per game. (One extra score for, one less score against.)
