Fog is created whenever the outside temperature = dew point temperature. It has nothing to do with hills or trees or lack thereof. Cool pic though.

I dunno, I was told that by Elliot Nelson himself, before he even built McNellie's. You can find quite a few Kilkenny's just doing a Google search.

Does Kilkenny's sponsor a bar crawl in Ireland? Elliot has one just about every year. Can't recall the price but it sounds pretty cool if you're a drunk and you like to wear sweaters.:D
btw, Elliot also supposedly bought all of the furniture in the Tulsa bar in Ireland.

And yeah Tulsa has hella potholes but it's still the easiest logistical town to drive around in you'll ever find.

I am a huge Abner's fan and think Elliot's pub in Norman looks the most authentic of the three. The McNellie's in Tulsa has always seemed wide open and more like a saloon to me, save for the Leprechaun door.

I like any Irish pub...'cept for that joke in Moore...I just like the Cherry Street establishment best.

As far as franchising, there are several Kilkenny's brought up in a Google search, but they don't seem connected in any way...County Kilkenny is likely to spawn namesakes in this country, just as Monterrey is going to name quite a few Messican eateries in the US.

I'd love to go on a pub crawl trip with Elliot or anyone, for that matter. Hell, someone's idea of seeing ND/Navy just because, is a great one.

No as someone from OKC I tend to agree with him...in some ways - well Tulsa and OKC have separate issues. Tulsa seems to have a mish-mash of highways which can be confusing to someone from outside. But in OKC they did something stupid in the street naming - I do love how Tulsa's mile streets make sense (21st, 31st, 41st)....OKC's make no sense, and then they go screw with it by renaming the numbered streets to a name (Britton Road)

Dammit! Another one of my favorite childhood memories and pride in my home of Northwest Oklahoma.... GONE! Just like our freakin' national title hopes this year.

As I researched, not only is Shawnee correct (Woodward was location #2), but the first Top Hat to adopt the name was in (*gasp*) Stoolwater...

AGGGHHHHHHHH! I may never eat there again.... (excerpt of history below)...

The Shawnee restaurant remained the sole Top Hat until 1956. In that year, Smith met Charles Pappe, a manager of a Safeway supermarket in the Oklahoma town of Woodward who was interested in starting his own restaurant. Pappe, visiting Shawnee, met Smith, and, as the two discussed Pappe's restaurant plans, Smith convinced him to dub his drive-in a Top Hat as well. They began to operate their restaurants under the slogan 'Service at the Speed of Sound' and developed paper goods with the Top Hat name. By 1958 two more Top Hats opened, in Enid and Stillwater, Oklahoma.

'Sonic' in the Jet Age

Smith and Pappe made plans to step up their franchise business. They soon discovered, however, that the name Top Hat had already been copyrighted. The pair consulted the dictionary, where they found the word 'sonic.' The term fit neatly with their slogan. New signs and paper goods were developed, and in 1959 the Stillwater restaurant became the first to adopt the Sonic name.

My family used to shop at the Safeway in Woodward. Of course we also used to shop at TG&Y. Anyone remember those?
