Basically, the assignment was to write the intro to a research paper that would get the attention of your audience and draw them into the rest of the paper. So, what does little teen badger do? She makes up the biggest mound of BS possible to tell her rural Wisconsin classmates - that Green Bay was about to lose to Denver in Super Bowl XXXII. I got a perfect grade, because the Packers were heavily favored and even people who didn't know football knew that Green Bay was far superior to aging John Elway's Broncos.

Being right about that prediction was not something that I rubbed in classmates' faces later. It was like punching myself in the gut. I didn't believe it when I wrote that crap, and my favorite team in the whole wide world just lost the biggest football game of the year... and I called it.

Here's my prediction on the game (http://boomerandsooner.fantake.com/2010/10/21/previewing-missouri/).

The Reader's Digest version:

Missouri's offense runs a lot of short/intermediate routes out of the spread and their running game is primarily zone read and other east-west running concepts. In other words, their offense is tailored to the strengths of our defense. OU's known weakness, the interior DL, is pretty much safe from attack as Gabbert is no more mobile than Gilbert, and Mizzou doesn't really commit to running the ball.

Missouri may have better talent, and this will be a close game no matter how it turns out, but their schemes aren't optimized for our weaknesses. In fact, their offensive scheme runs pretty much right into the strengths of our defense.

Just goes to show how fickle the perdicterin' stuff can be.

That is, none of us have a freakin' clue how the tough games (two highly ranked teams knocking heads) are going to go. Sure, we can all weigh in that OU is going to blast ISU. But when we go top 10 on top 10, especially on the road or in a bowl game... All you really can do is watch.

That's why they still play 'em.... and Vegas still takes bets on 'em.
