Forbes' list of The Country’s Most Dangerous Cities (http://blogs.forbes.com/francescalevy/2010/10/12/real-estate-lifestyle-danger-housing-cities/)

We used FBI data on the number of violent crimes per 100,000 residents in 2009, and Department of Transportation data on the number of traffic fatalities per 100,000 residents in 2008 (the most recent available). We ranked all cities with a population above 250,000 for which we had complete data. A lack of data prevented us from including Chicago, Las Vegas and Virginia Beach, Va. in the rankings.

The Country’s Most Dangerous Cities

1. Memphis, Tenn.

2. St. Louis, Mo.

3. Kansas City, Mo.

4. Detroit, Mi.

5. Miami, Fla.

6. Tulsa, Okla.

7. Nashville-Davidson, Tenn.

8. Indianapolis, Ind.

9. Oklahoma City, Okla.

10. Stockton, Calif.

Atlanta, Ga.

At one time, Tulsa had the dubious honor of having State Farm's two most dangerous intersections, 51st and 71st and Memorial.

This has got to be misinformation...Where is LA, New York, all those dangerous cities? What probably hurt us is the per capita. Personally I still feel safer walking downtown OKC than I would any of those other cities on the list or a lot of cities not listed. And they had to leave Chicago off cause they would have been #1 and don't want Obama's city looking bad...

The study took into account violent traffic accidents (ones with fatalities), so of course, the numbers are going to be skewed towards cities without a good public transit system...New York and Chicago have very good public transportation (or at least, widely utilized)...LA has such bad traffic congestion, that no one ever gets hurt in accidents there (sarcasm, kind of)...it hurts cities like OKC, Tulsa, etc. where everyone has to drive everywhere they go...

Yeah, you can go ahead and drop those down to 7 and 10 respectively. Chicago (excluded because of insufficient data) has to be top 5. :)

I know that Chicago and Virginia Beach have had some rough times for many years and they would be in the top 10 if their data was included.

Also, isn't Oklahoma City one of the top-infested gang cities in the US?

The drivers here in Tulsa are abysmal. I dodge a potential wreck almost daily and the traffic isn't even that bad.

It's pretty much the North Tulsa gang violence causing the high ranking. The local news shows all begin with the North Tulsa violence and murder report.

This is what I was thinking about a couple nights ago after I had posted this. It has to be because the traffic accidents, which IMO shouldn't be included in the most dangerous cities. I more concerned about getting shot by some dumbass who thinks I give two ****s about his gang.

I miss the Tulsa drivers. I went from Norman to Tulsa for 3 years and back to Norman/south OKC and feel like everyone drives like a grandma on Sunday. I am starting to develop road rage. :O
