So what is the protocol for responding to spek?

I haven't figured that one out yet. Seems like it could be a lot of work.

I think I'll just accept it and go on.

As far as giving it goes, I will only give if someone truly deserves it.

Best thing to do is if you get greened give it back, if you get negged just ignore it unless the person is being a prick

soonerboomer93
10/14/2010, 07:27 PM
So what is the protocol for responding to spek?

Personally, I generally return it.

It all depends on what's in the spec notes, if anything.

So what is the protocol for responding to spek?

you don't have to respond.
if that person says something in the future that you like, you can repay the favor.
if not, no one really expects you to acknowledge it. It's a one way street.

Just to be clear. After three years of mostly negative experience, in which I had decided to become an 2-game subscriber, I started the Hollis Board, I had a 46,000 spek rating based on real spek not betting over two season and 1500 posts, in the last four days I can see this service is a company I don't want to patronize. There are two other services which I believe have at least equivalent mail rental without the abusive environment. I am taking my business elsewhere.

Come now Collier....

Often times, perception is reality

In this case, the perception was at one point, the Posse, for worse or worst, had monopolized the board through its members pedantic rantings, negspekking jihads (against those who actually care about spek) and cliquishness. Whereas I always found it kind of "cute," others with much thinner skin and more a sense of propriety, found it less so.

Having said that... N00BIES.. BEWARE THE POSSE!!! Especially during that certain time of the month.. actually right beforehand when PMS takes over.. and... do you really trust something that bleeds for 4 straight days.. and doesn't die? OH WAIT.

You said... POsse!

When I was a mere urchin in law school in the early 80s, one of the advisors on our board of directors of our law journal was a judge (later became a fed court judge). I got to know him a bit. I asked him what I could do to make myself be remembered. His first advise... "Be prepared, know your material, be professional." The second, "do something to set yourself apart.. perhaps a bow tie."

Since that time I have worn nothing else.

To this end, I've had at least one person on 5 jury panels, come up to me at the conclusion of the trial and comment how much they liked my ties.

I'm still trying to figure out the JKM thing. He's on several times a week with brilliant and expert posts. He's one of my favorite posters when I'm wanting to know something about football, along with the "at least 4" Jello mentioned.

As for being wrong on some points, I can't say anything but what I've seen posted. You probably know these people better and longer so I defer to your knowledge of reality. I generally don't live there.

It's more having the right type of attitude to be able to pull it off.

So we can assume that you have the same attitude as this toolbag?

Lid, setting oneself apart is sometimes a very good thing. For instance, when you are seen as the voice of reason or when your girlfriend is talking to her female friends and they begin to surreptitiously look your way with new appreciation.
Wearing a pair of Mickey Mouse ears sets one apart, but not in a good way. Likewise, breaking into insprired gibberish in the courtroom may make for memorable advocacy and create a certain buzz in the local brotherhood of the bar, but likely will not build a career.
As much as I generally respect the quality of jurors, they are, after all, drawn from a cross section of the population of whom at any given point, X% are drunk, Y% are gay, Z% are undiagnosedly mentally ill and so on. Don't put too much stock in their opinions after you've gotten the verdict you wanted.
Instead, look in the mirror. If you're doing something solely to attract notice, it's probably lame.
Or you could switch off to wearing a cod-piece. Now THAT really WOULD be a fashion statement.

If you call one mention of it whining then yes, by your definition.

Again, there's a reason some good posters are gone. Not saying it's the fault of the posse but there seems to be a correlation.

Sorry I got your panties twisted.

JKM has a keen perspective on the game of football, recruiting, coaching and classic jazz. Norm and Beano provided everyone with a stronger sense of self worth because they were such pathetic human beings.
Some of us miss that.
BigRedJed has been strangely absent.

blah blah blah, no biggie. And I was talking about Collier's panties.;)

Not twisted, just gets a little irritating when people are griping about something that really has little affect on this board. Nothing more than a group of friends who are goofin around. I think some people (not necessarily you) see when one or two members of the Posse neg them or come after them and think its the doings of the Posse, trust me, we arent that organized :D

As for JKM, he still posts about games and talks with many members of "the Posse" so I doubt he hates us too much ;)

And for the record, I like you and think youre a pretty cool guy as far as I can tell on the board. Ive never had any issues with ya. In fact, I want to get STEP over and we can take turns rubbing your shoulders

I once ran for 300 on 11 carries and scored 5 tds in high school , but that didnt make me a football expert. I actually didnt start really learning the game until I became a watcher and starting asking myself questions on why certain teams do this or that. Football has become so complex in terms of strategy and schemes that the best coaches put in 12-15 hours a day trying to gain an edge over their opponent. So in reality we are pretty much mental midgets in terms of our football knowledge.

Birch Steals Show But Roughers Win 71-33 Spectacular

By Lynn Jacobsen
Published: 9/30/1994
Last Modified: 3/25/2008 4:02 AM

Demetrius Birch was supposed to be concentrating on his grades this fall
as he prepared for the spring track season.
On Thursday night, Birch concentrated on football as he
equalized Muskogee's speed with five touchdowns.
The speedy Rogers High School back rushed for 306 yards
and four touchdowns. He also caught two passes for another
94 yards and one TD. But Birch wasn't enough to match the Roughers' many offensive
weapons as Muskogee romped to a 71-33 victory in District
6A-3 action at LaFortune Stadium.
Despite the loss, it was Birch that clearly stole the show.
He scored on runs of 74, 89, 60 and 63 yards in addition
to his 92-yard pass reception. He accounted for 400 of Rogers' 456 yards.
Still it wasn't enough. Muskogee (4-1 overall and 1-1 in 6A-3) broke open a close
game with three second-quarter scores. Rougher blue-chipper
Jason Freeman and fullback Seth Littrell had three TDs each.
Freeman had TD receptions of 9, 6 and 36 yards. His last
score seemingly put the Roughers up comfortably 58-19.
But Birch wasn't through.
"I came out for football to stay in shape for track,"
Birch said. "I was at Booker T. (Washington) last year
and I had a bad leg so I didn't put up too many numbers.
I just wanted to show I could play."

Hate to break into your entertainment, but I saw a thread on OUI where Goodolesooner's cancer is back. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Original post:
Just wanted to let you all know that I will be going into surgery on the 26th of this month. As some of you know, I have been battling Cancer since the summer of 2006. I have fought, and fought, and fought. I will never give up. I am a Sooner damnit!

I know many of you don't care for me, and I have brought this on myself. I will be honest, I enjoy stirring stuff up because it's funny to me to watch people take this message board business so seriously.

There is one thing about me that you can take to the bank. I have, and always will have unconditional passion, and loyalty to Oklahoma Sooner athletics.

We may all have our disagreements, but I love all of you and have enjoyed our conversations, debates, and e-fights. It's fun to me. Sorry if I offended anyone, but you shouldn't be so uptight about all this stuff because I am one of Your own.

I think highly of all of you. I thank you all so much. If this mess gets the best of me, just know that I will die draped in crimson with the good book by my side.

All of you are badasses. Damnit, I love being a Sooner. I am blessed to be a part of the Sooner Nation. There ain't nothing like it.

I'm pretty sure that I will survive, but I am very scared that this Cancer stuff is going to catch up to me and kill me. I hate it, but whatever happens will happen, and it shall be The Lord's will.

Again, I just wanted to let this crap be known because I have lived my life as a die-hard Sooner and regardless of whatever disagreements some of you and myself have had, just know that there isn't a more loyal Sooner fan on this earth.

Live your life. Screw the BS, and BOOMER SOONER BABY!

I had yogurt and Kashi go lean. I was feeling wild, so I threw some blackberries in, too.

Well, I woke up this mornin' and I got myself a beer.

The future's uncertain; the end is always near.
