Allow me to properly introduce myself.
I’m SoonerPride and I’m a bit of an OU fan.
Welcome to my world.
**********************************************
I have OU memorabilia dating back to 1910 and running through every decade of Sooner football in between.
Enjoy!
Sports Illustrated
In the middle of this wall are four mini-helmets signed by Steve Owens, Billy Sims, Barry Switzer, and Bob Stoops.
I have framed and on display all the "positive" OU football related Sports Illustrated covers. Losses to the whorns and huskers, failed drug tests, arrests, Marcus Dupree, etc. are filed away in a drawer. The glory days, the pre-season hype, the tributes to heroes, and the thrilling victories are all framed and they are the first thing you see when you enter my office. Some highlights are the 1955 Bud Wilkinson cover, the cover before the Game of the Century, and the infamous "Why Oklahoma is Unbeatable" cover featuring Clendon Thomas. This is the S.I. issue which started the "S.I. Jinx" since OU lost the very next week to damned Notre Dame. One cover is signed by Jason White.

Signature Flag and Buttons Buttons Buttons!

Adjacent to the S.I. wall is my signed OU flag and button collection.
Starting in 1999, I have brought the OU flag to every Fan Appreciation Day. Bob Stoops was the first to sign it, right at the juncture of the O and the U. Other notable signatures in the white interlocking OU are Mike Stoops, Brent Venables, Rocky Calmus, Jason White, Josh Heupel, Trent Smith, Andre Wolfolk, J.D. Runnels, Derek Strait, Teddy Lehman, and Tommie Harris. In the crimson field, some notable signatures are Lance Mitchell and Dan Cody.

I wanted to have all the players that signed in the crimson field to sign in white paint pen. That plan was nixed when Lendy Holmes took the white paint pen and signed in the white OU! d'oh!

Undeneath the flag is a signed version of the mural in the entrance to the Switzer Center. It has signatures by Uwe von Schamann, Billy Sims, Steve Owens, and Tinker Owens.

Flanking that are signature cards and photos of Bud Wilkinson and Barry Switzer.

Each button display case has a general theme. The first is "I'm a Sooner."
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i84/SoonerPride1/DSC00305.jpg

The case is dedicated to buttons from bowl games.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i84/SoonerPride1/DSC00306.jpg

The case's overall theme is generic Oklahoma Sooners.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i84/SoonerPride1/DSC00307.jpg

The case is home to gigantic 6" diameter buttons.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i84/SoonerPride1/DSC00309.jpg
The case's overall theme is Beat the Hell Out of *! Notice the OU/ * button featuring Little Red. Also in this case is a football player "dangle" made in Occupied Japan, which dates it to the early post-WWII period and a 1985 National Championship button signed by Barry Switzer. Notice the splendid Howard that old drunk button. Also included is a political button for Bud Wilkinson.

Above the door into the office, you see three Wedgwood plates and Christmas ornaments sold by the Danbury Mint.

Wedgwood Plates
When my grandmother passed away in the early 1990s, I inherited 3 OU Wedgwood plates. I knew nothing of their history, nor how many plates might be in the set (4 or 8 perhaps?). By their marks on the back, I knew they dated from mid-1950s. I went one Saturday to the Western History Collections reading room on the OU campus, opened a 1950 Sooner (alumni) magazine and began thumbing through them issue by issue, year by year. Below is the advertisement from November, 1956 for the original sale of these collectible plates. A set of four plates would set you back a whopping $11.50, including shipping. Today they are slightly more than that. From those initial three plates, I have continued to buy them on eBay, at www.collegeplates.com, and in local antique stores. I've given away two complete sets and still have 20 on hand. You will see them throughout the office on display.

Photographs
Featured here are pictures of Adrian Peterson, Curtis Fagan's catch versus Nebraska in 2000, and me with Barry Switzer, who was signing some of the items on display in my office, and a signed picture of Roy Williams. At top left is a visor signed after the 2000 texas game, signed by Josh Heupel outside the Cotton Bowl as he boarded the team bus.

OU Throw
Here is a framed OU throw. I thought it was too beautiful to simply use as a blanket and had it stretched and framed like a tapestry. Above that are some of my old OU caps.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i84/SoonerPride1/DSC00321.jpg

OU Cards and Heisman Winners
Above a Danbury Mint OU table and Tiffany-style lamp, there are framed OU cards, given away for free at Conoco stations to celebrate the 2000 National Championship. In the lower right, above the fax machine, is a framed set of Heisman cards, signed by Billy Vessels, Steve Owens, and Billy Sims. They no longer make these cards, so I won't get to add Jason White to the display. Next to each card is a miniature figure, complete with helmet and tiny Heisman trophy.

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i84/SoonerPride1/DSC00323.jpg

OU Books and Media Guides
I believe I have every book written on OU football. Some highlights are the limited printing 1949 hardcover edition of Oklahoma Kickoff, which is signed by the author Harold Keith. I also have A Stadium for Oklahoma, the campaign to build a permanent stadium for Oklahoma football. Penned under the direction of football coach Bennie Owen, this was the booklet which was distributed to raise awareness of and funds for Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, and included various conceptual proposals for our football stadium. Before this, there was no football stadium at all.

OU Football Schedule Matchbooks
Back in the dark and distant past people smoked. And though you might not believe it, they smoked INSIDE! To cater to their customers many businesses gave away matchbooks. Local merchants would print their name and the OU football schedule inside an OU football helmet matchbook cover. Though they were plentiful and free, intact covers are increasingly rare. They are housed atop a rather hideous ashtray, purportedly swiped from the OU Student Union.
Also on display is a tobacco silk (upper left) and a tobacco leather (center), both circa 1910-1915. These promotional items were given away in loose tobacco for those who rolled their own cigarretes. There is a wide market today for these items and they are highly collectible. As far as I know, these are the only two OU related items in that genre.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i84/SoonerPride1/DSC00330.jpg

OU Team Signature Glasses
Back in the 1960s and 70s and even into the 1980s, a popular promotional item was a glass which featured the signatures of the entire OU football team. Also given away were football schedule glasses. The oldest glass is a 1949 football schedule glass. Barry Switzer signed several of these glasses on top of his vintage signature from 30 some odd years ago.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i84/SoonerPride1/DSC00331.jpg

2003 OU Football Helmet
Signed by the entire 2003 football team.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i84/SoonerPride1/DSC00332.jpg

Danbury Mint plates and Roy Williams Signed Print
A complete set of Danbury Mint football fanatic plates. Below that is a 1970s-era hand-painted wall plaque. This exact same type plaque was in Steve Owen 's parents' home and can be seen in a photograph of their living room in the book Sooner, which follows the recruiting of and first years on campus of Steve's brother, Tinker Owens. I had this on my wall as a little kid. I think my dad bought it at Gibson's. The print is of our defense stuffing Nebraska in the 2000 game and is signed by Roy Williams.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i84/SoonerPride1/DSC00333.jpg

My Diploma
Above my diploma is a picture of the 1985 Pride clarinet section, taken at the Orange Bowl.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i84/SoonerPride1/DSC00334.jpg

OU Pennants and Cards
The next few pictures show sets of free Conoco gas cards celebrating each championship era. Highlights include the pennant to the 1959 (25th Anniversary) Orange Bowl. Also on display are the 1940s era football player with a Little Red decal and his girlfiend, the talking Mattel OU cheerleader, considerably younger than he is, since she is circa 1970.

Soda Bottles
The 6 pack of 2000 National Championship coke bottles is flanked by 7UP and Dr. Pepper bottles from the 1970s. Empty bottles are rather plentiful, but unopened bottles from 30 years ago are somewhat harder to find.

Underneath the watchful eye of a vintage Little Red pennant, two of my favorite recent OU memories are on display. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i84/SoonerPride1/DSC00341.jpg

AP Wire Photos
I've recently begun to collect vintage 1950s-era AP Wire photos. Rather than mere reprints, these photos bear the AP stamp and the teletype text that ran with the photo in sports sections across the country.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i84/SoonerPride1/DSC00342.jpg

Curio
Some highlights include two Ponkay Pottery OU football stadium ashtrays, circa 1950, several Danbury Mint OU car collectibles, and both versions of the stadium, both before and after the recent expansion and renovation.

Hawthorne Village
Below another OU throw displayed as a tapestry is the complete Hawthorne OU Christmas Village, available from www.collectiblestoday.com. One day I'll set it up right, but for now it sits rather unceremoniously atop filing cabinets.

This concludes your guided tour. I hope you had fun. There are drawers full of more pictures, newspaper clippings, magazines, OU/ * programs, and lots of other odds and ends that I haven't had time to frame nor the space to display. Maybe by the time I reach my 10,000th post I'll have made a serious dent in my backlog and will show you those items on display. You'll just have to stay tuned. Until then,

Where did it all come from?

Most of it from eBay...
some of it from local antique stores. About once every 6 months or so I spend a Saturday afternoon during baseball season trolling antique stores in OKC and Norman. Most of the team glasses came from there. And the buttons.

The Fagan catch versus NU is also one of my fave pics ever, mainly because Fagan is out of focus and it is the crowd in focus and every peron (except Corso) is signalling touchdown! I ordered the print from the Tulsa World since it was their photog that took the pic and it was on the front page of their paper on Sunday.

The collection is amazing and encapsulates what it has been like to be a Sooner fan. My first recollections of OU football were in the early 50's. I even remember sitting in a movie theatre then and watching a Den Martin and Jerry Lewis movie that mentioned the Sooners.

Many former Pride members are unhappy with the direction of the Pride under Britt, but in some ways the decisions are out of his hands (You're a Grand Ol' Flag) . Other decisions (like no high stepping in pre-game to Oklahoma!) are his.

1984 - 1985. And yes 84 was a fiasco. Not only did the Schooner get a yellow hanky but Pride unis got singed from fireworks landing in the stands

Fabulous

Wow. All I can say is WOW. That is the most impressive collection I've ever seen. I could spend days looking at all the stuff you collected. Count me envious like the others! Reminds me of a museum.

Beautiful. I collect also and have recently started collecting my Sooner collection. Where did you get the Sports Illustrateds? I would like to collect a few, but they were before my time.

I thought I had a bunch of junk! Very cool! I have most of the SI's signed. Do you frame the stuff yourself Pride? That in itself can get VERY expensive!

All the older SIs came from eBay. Finding ones without a mailing label is hard, especially for the vintage ones.

The Bud Wilkinson cover was the rarest of the lot.

Yes everything i have has been custom framed for me.

Hobby Lobby framed all the SIs and card sets. They are ok.

But then I found Case of Champions in downtown OKC. The bowl programs, postcard sets etc. Superior work and price. Ask for Coby, the owner. He'll treat you right.
