Count me as excited to see his debut this weekend. Judging by the chatter of players and coaches, he could be a special player. Another #22, another Roy...I like the combo.

On playing as a freshman:
"Its really encouraging to know that my fellow freshmen teammates are playing because you see them making plays and you know you're just as good. You're happy for them and you just want to go out there and make plays with them."

On summer and practice:
"We put in so much work this summer. Two-a-days was the hardest time of my life. I wanted to go home, I was crying everyday. It was something I had to build on and become a man. I had to grow up. We work so hard every day at practice and what you see is not a gimmick. It's just something that we do every week."

DOK:

After missing close to two months because of a broken ankle how do you feel you played?

I felt I did pretty good. Coming back from the injury, I came out with the mindset to not be worried about the injury and just come out and go full speed.
Did it take long to adjust after being sidelined so long?
The first play is crazy. Your adrenaline is rushing. The fans are screaming your name. But after the second or third carry I started to really feel it, get my legs up under me. When you go out there you're nervous, a little jittery. After that third carry I really started to settle down, just like high school.
How frustrating was it to have to wait this long to make your debut?
It was pretty frustrating. But thanks to my trainers and thanks to my coaches and teammates being a positive influence on me. I thank God for putting me through this because without Him none of this would be possible.

I have been waiting for this kids presence in this offense every since I've seen his highlight film. I have the posts to prove it. To be honest I thought we would save him a year and give him the redshirt. But I agree with the coaches to play him because of the senior RB's leaving the team this year. He has that burst in the holes.... kid gets into the second layer fast. I see good things coming soon. We haven't even seen the kid on the edge yet! Screen passes and back in the flats are in his near future!

FINCH STILL NEEDING CONDITIONING, BUT IN GAME PLAN FOR SATURDAY
Freshman running back Roy Finch (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Roy+Finch&CATEGORY=PERSON) dazzled Saturday with 93 yards on 16 carries in his collegiate debut.
But Finch, who missed two months with a preseason hairline fracture in his ankle, said he isn't quite in the game shape he'd like to be. But he's getting closer.
"Coming into the game I didn't know how many carries I might get," Finch said. "I was just trying to be mentally ready. My conditioning isn't where I want it to be. I was in really good condition during two-a-days leading up to the season.
"It's something I have to keep working on in practice, keep getting in better shape."
Bob Stoops (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Bob+Stoops&CATEGORY=PERSON) admitted there wasn't much hesitation in deciding to play Finch instead of redshirting him.
"We (and the offensive staff) felt he gives you too much of a different pace of play and style of running that he's going to contribute, and has a chance to in a really positive way," Stoops said. "Plus we have two seniors (DeMarco Murray (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=DeMarco+Murray&CATEGORY=PERSON) and Mossis Madu (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Mossis+Madu&CATEGORY=PERSON)) graduating. He'll be better and more prepared no matter how much he plays, just by going game preparation during the week."
Still, even with Murray and Madu commanding the majority of carries, the Sooners have plans to get Finch involved again at Missouri.
"If we can execute on third downs and stay on the field, there's enough (snaps)," said offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Kevin+Wilson&CATEGORY=PERSON). "You can start doing things with two tailbacks on the field. We've done that in years past. DeMarco can play out there in space along with Mossis. But the key as much as anything, no disrespect to our two seniors, but (Finch) the other night played as good as they did. Coach Gundy goes with who he feels is hot, or if a guy needs a blow.
"It'll be interesting. Roy's gotten a test and he played OK in one game. Now we're going on the road, and we'll see as a young guy how he handles that. Maybe he doesn't handle it well enough to get a lot. We'll see how it goes."
In addition to probably seeing work at running back, Stoops said it's "possible" Finch could be part of the return game, too.

I'm a big believer in having "change of pace" among the backs and I don't think DM and Madu are quite different enough in style to give us that. Finch is way different. It's got to be a bit white knuckle for the coaches to send a true FR into a game like this with so little game prep. It will be interesting.
