Its too bad that Stoops cant find a role for the guy within the rules, he could probably help our guys quite a bit

Former All-American Uwe von Schamann has asked Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops to be his kicking coach.

"All the time," Stoops said.

While it shocks von Schamann that no college team in the country has a kicking coach, there's an obvious reason. Division I programs are limited to nine full-time assistants and two graduate assistants.

Their are rules for the amount of coaches a team can have...Which coach do you cut out to replace with a kicking coach...

I know that the Steelers kicking coach had done a little work with some of the kickers in the summer a few years back...

According to some folks, we'd be better off without either KW or BV.

I don't think Stoops wants his kickers to have team meetings at the Library. ;)

Uwe should go to some coaching camps so he could coach more than just the kickers; maybe try to be overall special teams coach. Have to be versatile in a down economy.

we could hire him as a GA and have him as the kicking coach. Doubt we use any assistant as a special teams coach. We have never had a full blown special teams coach. Hayes was a TE coach first.

We shouldn't NEED a friggin' kicking coach. As the article pointed out, pretty much no one has one and there are still a lot of teams with great kickers.

True, but we've had a lot of great kickers without one. I just don't get why it's been so much less of a sure thing lately. I don't think we suck as bad as most here, but it sure isn't automatic like it seems to have been in the past.

I think our kickers have done fairly well so far, now if we need a game winner I might be nervous though

Man, we sure have come close to needing a game winner a few times this year!

Coach Stoops should see if they can cut a coach and hire a true 'kicking coach.' There are a few VERY GOOD kicking coaches out there. If you go on google and do a little reading it's apparent there's some special teams/kicking coaches out there who take the kicking/punting game very seriously and I think it would add a new dimension to our scoring game and field position battle. I read somewhere that special teams accounts for roughly 1/3 of the points of a football game. Why do teams spend less than 1/10 of the time at practice on it?

Here's a few good sites I saw with coaches who seem intelligent:
Coach Brent Grablachoff / www.KickingWorld.com
Coach Gary Zauner / www.CoachZaunercom
Coach Billy Cundiff / www.CundiffKickingcom

haha, the way I look at it, is when confidence rides high, the better chance of success.....so I am working on the confidence for our kickers :D
