Isn't he Dead? Freaking horrible way to celebrate your Birthday.

Wonder if Kurt Cobain got him a shotgun?

The worst part about John Lennon having been murdered is that he didn't have the opportunity to fade into irrelevance. Instead, he's become an annoying legend whose tale is as old and tired as his nag of a widow.

like Sir Paul did?
Yup. Where you're so toothless that they schedule you to play the Super Bowl the year after Janet Jackson's weird boob makes a guest appearance.

but he still fills arenas of people wanting to see him

as opposed to Janet Jackson who has to show nasty boob to try to be relevant

Happy birthday John. Thanks for bringing words of peace and harmony, even if so much of the world didn't listen.

This begs the question if Lennon would have had a better solo career than Paul?
I think both would have been pretty even, and at this age in life they'd have to go back to their Beatles work to fill the house.

Hard to argue what they accomplished together.

And they still haven't arrested that bastard who did it, Stephen King. (http://www.oddee.com/item_92285.aspx)

Screw you John. Strawberry Fields sucked and you could have fixed it and made it the best song ever written but you had to go and split the band up and act like an a-hole. Imagine all the people who looked up to you as kids that were let down because you weren't enough of a man to do the right thing and help the best friends you had in the World continue to make beautiful music. What a waste of life you became.

Screw you John. Strawberry Fields wasn't your best but alright and you could have fixed it and made it the best song ever written but you had to go and let your ugly *** bitch of a wife control you and everything else because she's a god damn egomaniac and split the band up and let her act like an a-hole. Imagine all the people who looked up to you as kids that were let down because you weren't enough of a man to do the right thing, grown some balls, kick that bitch to the curb, and help the best friends you had in the World continue to make beautiful music. What a waste of life you became with that ugly *** bitch.

Fixed :pop:

The best thing that came from Lennon was his kid Julian. To my knowledge he didn't join any of various available *** Clown Clubs. Being the subject of "Hey Jude," he probably had every right to start making silly political statements. The other confirmed offspring assembled the "Peace Choir" of uber leftists and hippies raising hell about Desert Storm. He sort of faded into irrelevance before the oars ever hit the water.

Two questions: how exactly is this not a song about worldwide Communism, and when did this become a good thing?

Also, I love how Lennon sings about nobody having any possessions, right about at the moment he walks into his multi-million dollar mansion that most of the rest of us could never dream of being able to afford.

one of the best songwriters of all-time. kinda funny that he played in a band with THE best songwriter of all-time. R.I.P.

He was HALF of the greatest songwriting duos of all time, just to be clear. He and Paul wrote some good stuff alone, but together there was more magic.

That said, John had some magic of his own and musicians of all types recognize it.

In honor of John Lennon's 70th birthday, keyboardist Jordan Rudess of progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER got inspired to sit down and play "Imagine". He says, "Such a beautiful song, written by someone who had such an incredibly meaningful life. The message is timeless..."
