They were announcing Statues honoring the Great coaches. Bob said He hoped He dosent get HIS Statue anytime soon , He said that when a statue goes up that means yer pretty much through. And He hopes to be around for a Lot more years.

I don't think he's going anywhere soon. In addition to the money, he's got a relatively young family who's settled well in Norman. He's got a new house that he's poured a lot of himself into. AND he apparently has an excellent relationship wth both Castiglione and Boren (and I would wager he's bright enough to understand just how rare and important that is).
He also has an excellent example, in Switzer, of how rewarding retirement can be.
Set all that against his family history of heart disease and I doubt he moves on to another job; I bet he retires from OU. When? Within 10 years, but probably closer to 10 than 5 would be my guess. Now, if he has a health scare....all bets are off.

I was mad that Rex Ryan wasn't going to be the DC so that Bob could just give the job to his brother...I was like the defense is going to suck..when they hired leach I knew the offense was going to be exciting though from his work with Tim Couch at Kentucky..

And the the spring game, they line up in the wishbone and then break out into a spread and chunk the ball 40 yards down the field to Michael Jackson I believe

With his family spread out over the country coaching, I see Stoops sticking around Norman well into retirement. It is centrally located, cheap and he can always have a vacation home in Florida. I like the idea that he can follow Switzer's lead and make more money in retirement than from coaching.

I am NOT buying that Bob Stoops will be a young retiree. If he does retire before 60, he will regret it and I predict you will see him back on the sidelines somewhere within 12 months.

The entire Stoops family ethos is tied up in football, and Bob Stoops is nothing if not a severe competitor. He will not enjoy life without standing on a big stage and having the chance to win big.

He's just gonna be way to bored to just "put his feet up" as George W Bush likes to say.

Not real sure I agree with that. In the few times I have been around him (and I do mean few) he strikes me as a man who sees the great deal he has going -- the money, biggest sheriff in town, etc. -- but does not necessarily see all of this as what defines him. Yes, his family is complete football, but I think there will come a time when he will say "I'm gonna do some other things". I guess I liken it a bit to Bruce Matthews. He does some part-time coaching with the Texans, but -- he also likes working in his cabinet making business. Whoda thunk it.

I was with Vet the day he heard Bob say he wasn't done. I remember it being something about the University honoring the Coaches with bronze statues and as I remember Bob's response was due in part that once they have made a bronze of you....you are usually done Coaching and that he was definitely honored to be though worthy of a statue at this point but he didn't see it happening anytime soon as he said he'd be Coaching OU for a long time to come.

So....whether or not you have a link or not....Bob has evidently changed his mind about how long he's gonna keep this gig.
