awesome. when i lived in crestview florida for a few months after i graduated i saw him one day at a rec center in florida playing basketball when he was a junior. i was wearing an ou shirt and he told me about how he had gone to edmond north and ou had sent him stuff in the mail and was looking at him. at that time i though he was totally just making stuff up and now look at him..
Really awesome guy. Excited to see him play!

Does anyone know what's happened to Jermie Calhoun? I really like the way he runs, but he's obviously not impressing in practice or something.

Whoa, really? I thought the coaches were going to RS him. That speaks volumes about both their confidence that he can immediately make an impact, and their lack of satisfaction with our current run game.

When you are 5-0 and just beat texas, you have the chance to have a very special season and should play virtually anyone who can help you win. We have 8, maybe 9 games left, plenty of time to fully utilize a year of eligibility.

Maybe Bob wants these guys to get game experience so they will be ready for next year since Murray and Madu will be gone. And also that thing about pulling out all the stops for a title run, redshirts be damned.

^^^ Exzackly. On both counts.

The second point MAY be the more important of the two, but we're losing our two senior RBs. I think we're seeing an audition of sorts -- Bob wants to know early who's going to rise above "heir apparent."

Finch and Clay are suppose to be good receivers and we'll miss that part of DM's game more than his running, IMO. I'm surprised we haven't seen much of Calhoun - he must be in the doghouse for some reason.

There's no peachy-keen, nice way to put it IMO. Calhoun has done nothing to warrant his hype so far and the coaches hinted that maturity and work ethic, while not bad, isn't where it needs to be with him. But, don't mistake that for meaning he can't be good eventually. Quentin Chaney and Keenan Clayton come to mind in terms of being the late emerging types in their time here.

I agree with this. And its a big deal for this team. Hannah can be a very solid receiving threat and looks as though both are dependable blockers now. Having tight ends that you can rely upon is very important for our offense.

NORMAN (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Norman+%28Oklahoma%29&CATEGORY=CITY) — The scariest part of Oklahoma (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Oklahoma+Sooners+%28Football%29&CATEGORY=ORGANIZATION)'s banner freshman class?

The player most impressive in August has yet to step on the field.
Saturday, the coaches say, he finally will.
Freshman running back Roy Finch (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Roy+Finch&CATEGORY=PERSON) is expected to make his long-awaited debut after sitting out the first five games with a hairline fractured ankle he suffered less than two weeks before the season opener.
"You are going to enjoy watching him play," said freshman safety Tony Jefferson (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Tony+Jefferson&CATEGORY=PERSON). "His moves are Reggie Bush (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Reggie+Bush&CATEGORY=PERSON)-like."
As good as Jefferson and Aaron Colvin (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Aaron+Colvin&CATEGORY=PERSON) and Trey Millard (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Trey+Millard&CATEGORY=PERSON) and Kenny Stills (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Kenny+Stills&CATEGORY=PERSON) have been, none turned heads the way the 5-foot-8, 180-pound cross between Quentin Griffin (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Quentin+Griffin&CATEGORY=PERSON) and Kendall Hunter (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Kendall+Hunter&CATEGORY=PERSON) did in the preseason.
"In two-a-days early, I said, 'Man, that's Quentin Griffin,'" offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Kevin+Wilson&CATEGORY=PERSON) said. "The response from (assistants Cale Gundy (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Cale+Gundy&CATEGORY=PERSON) and Josh Heupel (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Josh+Heupel&CATEGORY=PERSON)) was, 'That's Quentin Griffin, but faster.'
"He's got a lot of speed and change of direction and suddenness in space. We'll see how he comes back. But he looked awfully good in preseason."
It's unclear just how big an impact Finch will make the rest of the season, considering he just returned to practice last week.
Bell-cow back DeMarco Murray (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=DeMarco+Murray&CATEGORY=PERSON) has been commanding close to two-thirds of the carries, while Mossis Madu (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Mossis+Madu&CATEGORY=PERSON) has sparkled as the No. 2 back.
But the Sooners have a couple of reasons to get Finch involved in the offense.
One, Finch can help this season. The Sooners haven't had a run go for more than 20 yards since the opener against Utah State (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Utah+State+University&CATEGORY=ORGANIZATION). By all accounts, Finch is capable of going the distance every time he touches the ball.
Two, Murray and Madu are seniors, which means OU will have a new starting running back next season. Presuming he can stay healthy, Finch appears to be the favorite to assume that role, and will benefit next year from game experience this year.
"He's a guy we think can help," coach Bob Stoops (http://www.newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Bob+Stoops&CATEGORY=PERSON) said. "And we do have two senior running backs, and it will help him for next year. All of it together."
So far, this freshman class has been something else. With Finch, it's about to get even better.
"That dude is going to be something special," Colvin said. "I can't really explain his game.
"I'll just let him show you."

Actually, I think he loves the job. I am sure that is not all he does. But he seemed to always be very stressed out when he was a lawyer but since he has had this gig - he is all smiles! I don't see him much anymore - just during the NCAA wrestling championships when they are in Oklahoma or close (which is often.) But the last time I saw him he was a happy camper.

By the way.... Please don't go adding OU players to you facebook through Jason's account. I was adding some of the recruits last year just to see what type of post they posted and Jason called me and told me to chill out - and we are friends. But he did tell me it was just protocol. Yes, but I don't say that as a knock to the O-line - it's more of our scheme. Even in '08 with a record setting offense, we could not line up and just plow the defense off the line. You see that with other spread passing attacks too. But most these teams have a scat back that can make a big guy miss and get past all the chaos of linemen and be effective. Q was great at that and neither DM nor Madu do this very often. But I'm realistic - I don't see Finch getting many chances this year.

That might qualify him for a lower-tier SEC team.

LOL.

Jeff Demps is faster. Jeff Demps could outrun himself. Jeff Demps is amazing. Jeff Demps will be the starting RB for 3 NFL teams at once. Jeff Demps is more than fast, he is Florida Fast.

Not to be a smart *** but DAMN, I am happy to not be hearing about Flawda speed every other second this year.

On another note, Roy Finch already won the Heisman.

Roy Finch is so fast he went back in time and became Joe Washington.

This line is not a good run blocking line. Some aren't. If its our scheme to not open holes for the running game then why are we wasting our time with so many straight ahead between the tackles runs? Its not that we have to blow the entire defensive front up every play but when you're trying to run the ball you do want a seam where the play is supposed to go. With this line more often than not there isn't one so Murray is forced to put his head down and hope to get three yards on his own. As to 2008 we did run the ball knock people off the ball. Even Florida's all world, we're the SEC defensive front got blown off the line of scrimmage on two drives when we committed to the run. That is until we got inside the 5.

Finch will get some carries because if we're going to try to keep running the ball we're going to need someone who can run where there ain't no place to run.

That's only because the NFL combine proved they were "exaggerating" on their times. :D

All is well in Oklahoma. We are looking for Finch to add a spark to a top offense while Texas is probably scouring JUCOs/prisons for a playmaker as we speak. It's good to be a Sooner.

I agree no way Finch doesn't steal snaps from here on out
