Remember, we did face the number one rushing team in the nation. Granted our defense hasn't been the best but I think that's something to consider.

I'll also consider poor tackling.

Remember, guys. You have to factor in the poor-tackling!

Texas shuffled their depth chart this week:

Depth chart for OU has shakeups at RB, WR, DT, LB (http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/longhorns/entries/2010/09/27/depth_chart_for.html)

Junior linebacker Emmanuel Acho, who has started the first four games at middle linebacker and is coming off a seven-tackle, one-sack and one fumble-recovery game against UCLA, has been moved to strongside linebacker in place of Dravannti Johnson.
Dustin Earnest, who had been playing second-team behind Acho, will be the new starter at middle.
Keenan Robinson is the other starting outside linebacker.
That was one of a handful of changes released Monday in the Longhorns’ depth chart for the Oklahoma game. Other position changes:

James Kirkendoll, who caught a touchdown pass against the Bruins, has been replaced by Marquise Goodwin, who had his breakout game of 2009 against the Sooners, at wideout. Kirkendoll will back Goodwin up. But Kirkendoll still will figure into the rotation, especially since the status of Mike Davis is up in the air. Davis has a sore knee. He didn’t play the second half against UCLA..

D.J. Monroe, who led Texas in rushing last Saturday, has moved ahead of Cody Johnson and Tre Newton on the tailback depth chart. Fozzy Whittaker or Monroe are listed as the starter heading into the game, though Whittaker’s name is at the top of the list.
There’s a new defensive tackle starting alongside Kheeston Randall. Pflugerville product Alex Okafor will get the start againt OU, replacing Tyrell Higgins, who had five tackles, including one for loss, against UCLA.

Is this before or after they got smoked last week by UCLA?

Had to be after since UT was only giving 44yd/game on the ground pre-UCLA. The UCLA numbers were not terrible, except against the run and not nearly as bad as OUrs against AFA.

Wasn't something said along the lines of burning the game tape, because there was no need to watch it? I know one thing, I like our chances against the whorns this week much better than I would if UCLA came to town. :D

That was the AFA game where no grading was done. Did the Cincy tape get torched too? :P

When we hold texass to negative yardage our defensive rank will improve drastically.

Yep, the "no grading" quote was also mentioned.

I guess my point was it obviously WASN'T a fluke about giving up all those rushing yards to Air Force(who maybe should be called "Ground Force.") :D

Besides Florida State, every team we've played has exceeded their rushing average.

Now where's that koolaid? I'm sure we're saving the run stuffing D for conference foes. :pop:

Although this year's team has me on the edge of my seat about every week, I'll still be content to keep winning.

Why would we use Big XII stats when we haven't played a conference game?

VA Sooner

We've got a lot of work to do on defense this year. Air Force game aside, it still looks like the defense needs to work on covering the middle better and tackling. Too many missed/slipped tackles.

Ugly.

#97 out of 120. After finishing last year #8 in total defense. OUCH!

BoulderSooner79
9/28/2010, 04:57 PM
Fortunately, OUr defense was more balanced in giving up yards to Cincy.

So which is more powerful - UT's inability to run or OUr inability to stop it? ;)

Now let's take a look at what the combined average of the opponent stat rankings are for those very categories.

Rushing Offense:
OU: 40.80
Tex: 90.50

Passing Offense:
OU: 68.50
Tex: 73.50

Total Offense:
OU: 42.50
Tex: 100.00

Scoring Offense:
OU: 51.50
Tex: 85.75

Rushing Defense:
OU: 39.25
Tex: 77.75

Passing Defense:
OU: 70.75
Tex: 78.75

Total Defense:
OU: 54.00
Tex: 86.00

Scoring Defense:
OU: 59.00
Tex: 78.00

There is always a reason why stats look so favorable to one team and horrible to the other.

By the looks of the OP and this post, looks like OU has had to face by far the tougher offenses and defenses.

I assume that's with their games against OU and UT included? I'd really like to see those numbers in all games against other teams.

Well, it includes all games.

If you want it that way...feel free to exclude things.

Take Wyoming for example...their team is just flat out pathetic....

With four games gone by, teams can start overcoming a one game bad performance.

So, if you want to exclude the games when they played OU and Texas, then be my guess to exclude it.

I do not have that much time in my life to be excluding anything.
