The defense has problems no doubt. However, this team does rise up and win. I have to admit it's something that hasn't been a constant in the Stoops era.

This team has the confidence to win the close games. If they can shore up the defense they can be a solid team.

Remember this, everyone plays their best against OU. If anyone beats OU it makes their season. We get everyone's best and that's no BS.

And yet we seem to have beaten all that have faced us. No matter how good or bad those teams are, we have won. You can definitely tell we are still a young team trying learn. Nothing has been pretty, but I I'll take 4-0 over 2-2 anyday.

Yeppers. Utah State sucks and "they ain't gonna win a bunch of games this season" because they played us tough nor is AFA. I don't think FSU sucks entirely though.

I have a feeling the defense will play better in bigger games. This will probably be the theme all year. They should treat every game like that.

FSU is playing surprising well. That defense looked pitiful in Norman, and they are shutting people down.

I was impressed with the Utah State QB, but other than that, nothing really stood out about them.

I think Air Force will win 8 or 9 games.

the SDST defense smothered him...130 yards passing and 4 yards rushing..

My only reason posting this was for all the folks that think just because a team played OU close means they are good..the utah state love got out of hand there for a while...

I don't think that a team playing us close automatically makes them good. I do think, however, that we have a tendency to poorly prepare for some of the weaker teams which results in them looking good/us looking bad.

I am hopeful that this is because we are diligently preparing for our conference schedule and title run :D

I hate close games, but if they are a part of the bigger plan. i am OK with it.

For example, how many blitz packages have we rolled out so far this year? I know we haven't gotten a lot of pressure, but it sure seems like we have only had 4 dedicated to pressure so far. I am hoping we open up that aspect a little bit more next week.

stoops the eternal pimp
9/25/2010, 11:38 PM
no matter what blitz packages we have with extras guys, the front 4 not being able to get pressure is a little scary..

If they are going to compete for something this year, OU is going to have to close the deal against inferior teams...letting teams hang around is dangerous

I just mean, let sunshine pumpers say what they want, but we played badly that game. Utah St. isn't that good. I just don't care as long as we keep winning. An ugly win is a win. This season in college football has been crazy.

problem is its hard to keep winning when doing that...I dont think when OU goes to College Station or Stillwater that they'll be able to dick around and win

Yeah we could be. But our players have created their own luck and made plays necessary to win those game. We are 4-0.

College Station...meh. FIU nearly beat them there. I have gone the last two years and we have taken care of business. Stillwater...well, we better play defense.

I will tell you right now, as of today, 9/26/10, there are zero teams in the Big 12 heading for an NC show down. That "could" change, but not without getting seriously better. Now go shove that fork into Texas next week!!

41-7 *** pounding by San Diego ST.... Air Force struggled against Wyoming and had to pull it out late in the 4th...FSU beat a pretty ****ty Wake Forest team..

I was thinking about this very situation this morning. As fans we support OUr team no matter how impressive or unimpressive we've seen them play.
Because of that love for OUr team, because of some sunshine pumping and maybe because of the ranking in the top 10 we've all (or most) become convinced that since we beat Utah State, Air Force and now Cincinnati in unconvincing fashion that it must mean that all those teams are somehow better than they're supposed to be.
Well I'm not falling in this trap anymore this year, I'm not buying it. I simply don't think Utah State is very good, I don't think Cincy is very good...and I'm really wondering about Air Force at this point too. And quite frankly all three of those teams throughout this young season have now proven that they aren't as good as we want them to be.
I think we should all quit trying to talk up the mediocre teams that we've beaten by slim margins, and let's worry about winning the games that are ahead of us. IMO we have some tough games left on the schedule.
All that said...I think this team is capable of winning the majority of the games left, or even running the regular season table. BUT it all comes down to them being more consistent...playing smarter (stop stupid penalties), playing for a full game, stop dropping passing, stop blowing coverage, etc. etc. (we all know the routine).
For my confidence to build in this year's team as a fan I would like to see them gel immediately. Starting this week against those no good sonsofbitches from austin :mack:

I was thinking yesterday how horrible rankings are this time of the year. We are nowhere near a top 10 team right now. Had we been a less known team our performance so far would not even get us in the top 25.

Our NC year we played some close ones but not like this.

I really miss the days of the Mike Stoops D. Only 3 opponents in the regular season that year scored more than 14, and one of those scores was 16.

I do believe we have a Championship type of offense. The defense, in 3 of 4 games, is giving up too many big plays and huge chunks of yardage to keep the opposition from moving the ball. The good news is that we still have a lot of football left and hopefully we will learn from the early mistakes that haven't cost us a game. If not, we lose at least 2 games.

I've seen some make comparisons to the 2000 season and . . . and it doesn't get close to adding up. We played a couple of close games, but never against an inferior opponent, and especially not at home. We also played well in those games--I don't remember ever being frustrated with how the 2000 team played. Always thought they gave it their all. Maybe time has altered some of the week to week perceptions, but that team . . . I loved that team.
